We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexis Coger and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexis, why did you pursue a creative career?
Art has always had a huge influence on me. I’ve been drawing my entire life, and have always had an artistic outlook on life.
I’ve always known I wanted to do something with art, I can’t imagine life without creating.
By the time I was 15, I knew I wanted to pursue tattooing. When I turned 18 is when I finally was able to go through with starting to tattoo.
Now at 24, there’s nothing else I’d rather do.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve always stayed consistent with what I wanted. Since I was young, probably 3rd or 4th grade, I started taking art and drawing very seriously. As I got older, I got more invested in art and knew that I wanted to continue to create.
By the time I was 15 I knew I wanted to learn to tattoo. From drawing on my friends to drawing designs on paper and researching things about tattooing, I wanted more.
I tried to get an apprenticeship when I turned 16, however I couldn’t start until I turned 18. So I kept drawing.
At 18, I got my apprenticeship and that started my professional tattoo career.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When my friends and family visit from out of town, we love to be outside.
In the summer, floating down the salt river is one of the first things we do. I love taking friends and family on hikes. Some of my favorite hikes to do is wave cave, butcher jones, camelback. I also love trying new hikes with friends. Or go camping in Payson.
For food, in and out and my favorite taco spot, los Reyes de la torta, are on the list to stop at.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
