Meet Alexis Nettles | Content Creator & Online Coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexis Nettles and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexis, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
After having odd jobs as a teenager and young adult, it became very apparent that I was meant to work on my own. I realized I longed for the freedom of being my own boss; that alone was enough for me to start my own business!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Being in the “lifestyle” niche, my content is a direct expression of my personal life. I’ve always been a chronic “romanticizer,” growing up as a theater kid who read too many books, so making a big deal out of my everyday life is natural to me. Whether I’m going to the grocery store, taking a pilates class, cleaning my home or trying a new lip combo, I absolutely adore being able to tell a story through my video and photo content. I especially love how the magic really unfolds during the editing process – this is where I believe my content stands out.
Since I’ve become a full-time Content Creator, I have the incredible pleasure of working with my favorite brands. Just knowing these brands see my content and are choosing me to work with them on campaigns is a dream come true in itself.
To get to where I am today, I definitely had to learn some lessons in discipline. Being self-employed, there isn’t someone to yell at you if you’re going to miss a deadline, no one is giving you a performance evaluation and there definitely isn’t someone giving you a daily agenda. It took time, as well as a lot of trial-and-error, to get into a solid routine, let alone know exactly what to work on and what tasks get priority for the day.
The main challenge I’ve faced in this career is burnout. Since there aren’t any specified hours where I clock in and out, and because I am a known overachiever, I would work constantly. This would inevitably end up in me burning out, with little to no creativity to run on, which would then halt my momentum (if you know anything about working on social media, you know how detrimental that can be for engagement). I’ve since learned to balance my work and lifestyle, and prioritize my self-care. Learning when to reserve my energy, and when to spend it, has been the key to my success as of late.
I create content for other women in their mid to late twenties who love to prioritize themselves, practice self-care and crush their to-do lists, whether that’s through outfit inspo, a daily vlog or a makeup tutorial.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have to shoutout my parents for always encouraging me to pursue my dreams, no matter how obscure or “far fetched” they were. In addition to them, I’ll shoutout my husband, Mason, for endlessly supporting my wild ideas and business endeavors.
