We had the good fortune of connecting with Alisha Marie Anglin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alisha Marie, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The term “life is what you make it” is definitely something I live by. Some people choose to stay stuck in the situation they may be in, and some prosper and stay focused on their dreams. I chose to pursue my Art career and become an entrepreneur. It took a lot of courage to quit my day job in the medical field and the right mindset and place in my life where I was able to put together the proper business plan for my future. Motley Eye was the perfect name I came up with for my specific business. Motley means colorful and It fits well for my profession. Being able to work for myself doing what I love each and every day has truly changed my life. Having more time with my family, the freedom, and being creative everyday fills my heart. Being a business owner is also in my blood. I was taught hard work pays off from a young age. My grandparents have been inspirational with owning their printing business for 38 years and counting.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My Art has really varied over the years but still remains Abstract. Using vibrant and electrifying colors I tend to let all my emotions go onto my canvas. It’s really amazing how much I’ve taught myself and learned new techniques I never knew could even work. I have made some amazing memories with previous art shows and events. The biggest event was being asked to join Wayfair as a partner In September of 2019. There was a rough few months finding the right manufacturer to print my art on home decor items, setting up contracts, 10,000 word excel spreadsheets, and going through a rigorous process with Wayfair to make sure everything was covered. I doubted myself many times almost giving up but kept thinking about my future and what I love to do. My products were launched live on Wayfair.com November 29th, 2019. Since then I have sold home decor on Wayfair worldwide and have truly made a name for myself and my business Motley Eye. In December 2019 I taught an ornament painting class for Moya Elementary School 4th graders while donating 30 canvas painting kits to the class which was truly one of my favorite events of all time. For anyone who is thinking about starting their own Art business I would tell you to take a leap of faith like I did and go for it! Put your mind to it, and never give up. When times get tough, paint your emotions. Have patience because nothing happens overnight. You will be truly amazed by this process and probably wind up painting some of your best paintings during these times….

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Locally I love El Chorro Lodge and the Montelucia resort. I would take anyone visiting me to these places. I would rent a cabana at the Montelucia and spend the day at the pool at this amazing resort with a pitcher of their delicious sangria. After a day here I would head over to El Chorro Lodge and watch the sunset at their outdoor patio while enjoying their famous sticky buns and beef stroganoff. Another great place to visit while in Arizona is Sedona. It’s filled with beautiful red mountain views, and my favorite part is Oak creek, Slide Rock. The water is crystal clear and the views are breathtaking.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to give a shoutout to my mother who has raised me and pushed me to always do better in life and to work hard and that it would pay off. My Grandmother and Grandfather have been a huge inspiration to me and have always supported my ventures and ideas which helped me to keep moving forward and trying harder. Also a big shoutout to my husband who has always had my back for 18 years and has motivated me to do what I love and be happy while doing it. My one and only sister has driven me to keep painting and always stay positive. My friends, family, and fans on social media, thank you for your support over the years, and your feedback and comments on my work! It truly means a lot to me.
