We had the good fortune of connecting with Alyssa Belanger and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alyssa, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
As a parent, I believe the most important things I’ve tried to teach my children are kindness and independence. I’ve always emphasized the importance of being kind—to themselves and to others—because empathy and compassion are at the heart of meaningful relationships and strong communities. At the same time, I’ve worked hard to encourage their independence and help them learn to advocate for themselves. Teaching my children to be confident, self-assured individuals who can stand up for what they believe in will guide them through every stage of life, no matter what challenges they face.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
At The Event Genies, we believe that great events don’t just happen—they’re imagined, crafted, and brought to life with heart, strategy, and a little bit of magic. We specialize in creating thoughtful, memorable experiences that feel effortless for our clients but are backed by careful planning, creativity, and a deep understanding of what makes an event truly resonate.

What sets us apart is our ability to blend creativity with logistics. We’re not just about pretty details (though we love those too!); we focus on creating events that work—for the people hosting them, the people attending them, and the goals behind them. Whether it’s a corporate event, an intimate gathering, or a large-scale celebration, we pride ourselves on being attentive, collaborative, and solution-oriented from start to finish.

Getting to this point hasn’t always been easy. Like many small businesses, we’ve navigated moments of uncertainty, long nights, tight deadlines, and the constant balancing act of doing the work while growing the business. But we’ve learned that staying true to our values—being reliable, kind, curious, and open to feedback—has been our North Star. We’ve also learned the power of community: surrounding ourselves with other creatives, supportive clients, and trusted vendors has been a huge part of our growth.

What we’re most proud of is the way people feel after an event we’ve touched: seen, celebrated, connected. That’s the real magic.

If there’s one thing we’d love the world to know about The Event Genies, it’s that we’re not just here to plan events—we’re here to lift the pressure, bring ideas to life, and help create moments people won’t forget. We’re grounded, enthusiastic, and endlessly excited to keep growing this dream.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
That’s a tough question, but I do have a few favorite spots that make for a fun night out. I’d probably kick things off with a glass of bubbles and the incredible focaccia bread at Parma—it’s just down the street from my house and the perfect way to start the evening. From there, we’d head to DC Ranch and grab dinner and drinks at The Living Room, a cozy and lively spot. Afterward, we’d slip into the hidden speakeasy, The Peacock, for a little extra fun and ambiance. And if we’re still going strong, we might end the night at The Rooster, enjoying live music and a bit of dancing.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Without a doubt, my shoutout goes to my dad. He has always been my biggest cheerleader—the one who believed in me before I fully believed in myself. From early on, he made it clear that he thought I was capable of doing anything I set my mind to, and that kind of unwavering support sticks with you. He never tried to do the work for me, but he gave me just enough guidance and encouragement to get a head start. That quiet confidence he had in me has been a huge part of why I keep pushing forward. I definitely wouldn’t be where I am today without him.
