We had the good fortune of connecting with Amaya Damme and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amaya, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
When first starting my business, I was over-working and participated in the “hustle culture” that came with being a young female entrepreneur. I soon realized how important it was to focus on my health, mentally and physically.

After making that realization, I have been able to re-evaluate my routine and work schedule to create something more practical and sustainable. Having a solid schedule has helped me control how I use my time more efficiently, and created a healthy work-life balance.

There is no right or wrong on what a work-life balance should look like, but being able to wash away guilt to take time off, be with friends, and make time for yourself however that looks, is extremely important.

What should our readers know about your business?
I am most proud of the new direction Obtaining Social is going. We were focused on making sure that all of the backend processes were clear, we strayed away from community building due to not having the time to solely focus on it. Now that the processes are clear, we are over the moon about the fact that we are now able to really focus on community building again, as well as getting more of our personal content out there that we believe will help aid small businesses in social media marketing and learning more about how to make a mark in a saturated market.

It has been a challenge to figure out how to balance it all, but now that we have a better schedule and process, we are able to continue to make educational and beneficial content at an even more consistent rate.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My ideal weekend with a bestie in the valley would start off getting something yummy to eat, some of my local favorites are Eat Daily Jam or Jojo Coffee House for brunch/coffee. After getting some food and drinks, I would take my BFF to one of my favorite small business boutiques in Scottsdale, Truly Blessed Jewels where we could get permanent jewelry, such a fun, and unique experience!! Then it would be off to lunch at Fire and Brimstone where we would indulge with the best pizza and hummus gilbert has to offer. After that we would wind down watching the sunset at a lake nearby, my favs are Bartlett and Pleasent Lake!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
If there was anyone I would shout-out the most, it would be the community that Obtaining Social has. When starting, I was just 19 years old, in college, and trying to navigate my way through life. When going onto social media, I was terrified of what people would say and think, but I was able to create a positive and uplifting community of other women from around the world that believed in me and supported me.

The community is full of people I do not know personally, but have made a huge impact on my life. From the constant uplifting messages, to even becoming apart of the team, it has been amazing to watch it grow and unfold.
