Meet Amy Frank | Private Yoga Teacher

We had the good fortune of connecting with Amy Frank and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amy, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Before last year, I had no plan to become a yoga teacher. I was on track to become a psychotherapist. After getting burnt out by graduate school during the pandemic (twice), I made the difficult but necessary choice to take a step back and prioritize my mental health last year. It was a very hard time and I had few healthy coping mechanisms. That is when I found how much yoga can turn things around, physically and psychologically.
I developed a consistent yoga practice, which helped me manage some chronic conditions, including scoliosis and nerve compression in my neck due to psychosomatic muscle tension. After finding the right teacher, I knew I had to take my practice further. I wanted to be able to manage my pain and symptoms myself: to have the knowledge to know what to do to manage my symptoms as best as I could, without having to rely on finding the perfect yoga sequence among so many classes available. I took a leap of faith and pursued my 200-hour yoga teacher training with Jason Crandell, my teacher. I did not know if I would want to become a teacher or not, but I knew I at least had to do the training for myself.
After completing the program and earning my certification, I am more passionate than ever about sharing yoga with others. I do not think we are able to fully see our possibilities and potential unless we take some risks in life. I would have never discovered this beautiful practice, or decided to pursue further training, if I did not take risks regarding my career path.

What should our readers know about your business?
I am a mobile yoga teacher that offers individual, semi-private, and small group yoga instruction in the convenience and comfort of the student’s location. I travel all over the Phoenix metro area, and beyond. Individual instruction is one-on-one and semi-private instruction is for 2 to 4 students. Single sessions are available, but I primarily aim to work with students who seek yoga instruction on a consistent basis (once or twice a week). With that in mind, I offer multiple-session memberships and packages at a great value.
The styles of yoga that I teach are hatha and vinyasa (flow), as I am a Certified Vinyasa Yoga Teacher, with an additional certification in Trauma-informed Yoga. I love to teach all abilities and experience levels, but I especially love working with beginners, and those who experience chronic tension or back discomfort. Learning the foundations of a physical yoga practice lays the framework for future practices, so it is an essential step. I can also personally relate to the mentioned conditions, so I am especially mindful about providing modifications and finding suitable poses for each student.
I work with women and non-binary folx privately and semi-privately, as well as couples (of any gender) semi-privately. I typically work with men in either more public settings or virtually.
For private and semi-private yoga instruction, I include:
– A truly personalized practice tailored to your unique goals, abilities, and body.
– 2 blocks & 1 strap (clean & sanitized) to borrow for any modifications. These are optional to use but available. Other props may be available upon request.
– Optional “homework” assigned between sessions to reinforce our practice (and it is nice to have to refer to at any point later!).
– Travel to your location, within 30 miles or 45-minutes of 85035*.
– Packages & Memberships include an extra 15-minutes during the initial session to go over goals, make a plan for moving forward, and to answer any last-minute questions. We will periodically check-in and revise these goals/plans during our time together, as needed.
Whether you are just starting out or looking to level up your practice: I’ve got you.
* Travel Fee applies if outside of this distance/drive time. Once I know the student’s address, I let them know if travel is included, or if there will be a travel fee, based on my estimations, using their location, day of the week, time of day for their requested appointment (traffic!).
Small group instruction is typically for 5 to 10 students, but there are some exceptions! These are offered as single session classes, class series, and workshops. It is also available by request and may be personalized to the needs of the group.
Another service that I am excited to offer is integration and preparation support for ketamine patients, using yoga, mindful movement, and meditation. I am happy to work with patients who have already consulted with their physician about these services, or to work collaboratively with clinics/other providers.
It has been a long and interesting journey getting where I am. I actually have undergraduate degrees in Biology and Psychology, and have a couple of years of graduate school under my belt – and not in business! Running a business has not been easy, as I have been doing everything myself on an extremely limited budget and limited business knowledge. I have had to learn so many new skills unrelated to yoga because I am not yet able to hire others to do these tasks for me.
Like any new, small business, I am trying to get the word out about who I am and what I have to offer. There are a lot of yoga teachers out there, so I need to set myself apart from the crowd (in a genuine way) if I want to be successful.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite place to eat: La Santisima. My favorite place to eat, drink, and hang out: Hanny’s (downtown).
My other recommendations are the great hiking trails we have available. My favorites are Camelback Mountain via Cholla Trail, and on days when I want to take it easier: Quail Trail in Estrella Mountain Regional Park.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to Jason Crandell, my yoga teacher and mentor. If it was not for his classes, I do not think I would have pursued this path and found the healing that I have.
