We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrea Davis, CCIM and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Andrea, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I wanted to have more control over my own destiny and provide opportunities for others. There are a lot of young professionals who want to get into commercial real estate but don’t have the appropriate advisors or mentors. I endured this struggle firsthand and wanted to develop the company culture that I wished for and envisioned early in my career. When I opened the doors to Davis Commercial AZ, the goal was to grow and develop a successful boutique brokerage firm that offered a supportive and welcoming work environment to help individuals learn the business in the shortest time frame possible. My plan was to create a company where brokers could get hands-on training and experience as well as access the tools and guidance to build the necessary confidence to close deals.

What should our readers know about your business?
Davis Commercial AZ is made up of a very well-rounded team of people, which sets the firm apart from others. Our clients benefit from the diverse levels of expertise we offer in a wide variety of areas. We initially started in development and moved into brokerage services, which gives us a greater understanding of what stakeholders’ goals require for success. Our brokers are highly educated and have backgrounds that complement each other with knowledge and experience in different areas of commercial real estate. They understand the intricacies of complex deals to help clients find the best value and secure the best price.

Aside from my team, I am most proud and excited about the release of my second book, “Simply Own It! The American Dream.” It is a nine-step guide geared toward helping business owners through the commercial real estate purchase process. After spending years representing buyers and sellers, I wanted to share valuable information with business owners to help them understand that investing in commercial real estate is within their reach and give them the tools and knowledge to do so.

I got to where I am today by sticking to it, pushing through challenges and always finding the silver lining. I continue to move forward with my team at Davis Commercial AZ by embracing this mindset every day for our clients and for the firm. It is not always easy, but it sure is fun breaking down those walls. I have overcome challenges by growing Davis Commercial AZ organically throughout the years. When new opportunities or needs arise, we stretch to meet the challenge – and we aren’t stopping any time soon. I think the most important lesson is to learn how to balance being flexible enough to roll with the punches and remain determined enough to always get the job done.

Change has been my driving force both personally and professionally. Changing careers can be scary, market turbulence can be scary and becoming a mother while building your career can be petrifying – but transformation is inevitable, and it doesn’t have to be daunting. Change opens the door to your next great adventure. The secret is learning how to embrace it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love sharing the beauty, history and wildlife unique to the Southwest. When my best friend visits, I organize elaborate back-country camping trips and take her to one of my favorite jaunts – Havasupai Falls in the Grand Canyon or Lake Powell. I especially enjoy taking visitors away for a few days on a houseboat. Being a trained chef, our outings always include elaborate and delicious campfire meals. Our adventures always involve meeting dynamic people along the way, enjoying magnificent sights and creating great memories.

After we get back to town, we will enjoy a stroll through Old Town Scottsdale or visit one of our special local sites such as the Desert Botanical Garden or Phoenix Art Museum. Then, depending on our mood, I will take my friend to dinner at one of my favorite restaurants like Soul Café, Local Bistro, Jade Palace or Mastro’s. Arizona has so much to offer, and I treasure sharing all of it with those I care about.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support of my husband. He was the one who encouraged me to apply for my first position in commercial real estate as an executive assistant. I was working as a waitress at the time when a customer gave me his business card and asked me to give him a call. After landing the job, I embraced the challenge to learn all that I could, and the rest is history. My husband has been by my side every step of the way guiding, advising and supporting me through the highs and the lows of my career over the past 25 years.
