We had the good fortune of connecting with Rye Whalen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rye, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
If your life is a disaster, trying to make up your mind to turn over a new leaf and fix everything at once will NOT work. You’ll get overwhelmed and give up in a matter of days.
Pick ONE thing.
So I picked one thing and that thing was to start working for myself to directly impact my community.
My thought process behind starting my own business stemmed from observing the potential pitfalls of overreliance on generative AI tools and SaaS platforms in software development. The scenario painted a picture of companies facing recurring challenges due to inadequate architecture, security vulnerabilities, data integrity issues, and escalating costs. Recognizing these challenges as opportunities for innovation, I saw the potential to offer tailored solutions that strike a balance between automation and human expertise.
By starting my own business, I aimed to provide a holistic approach to software development that integrates the strengths of AI tools with the creativity and problem-solving abilities of human developers. My goal was to address the shortcomings highlighted in the scenario by offering comprehensive services encompassing architecture design, security implementation, data management, and performance optimization.
I envisioned my business as a partner to companies navigating the complexities of digital transformation, offering not only technical expertise but also strategic guidance to ensure sustainable and scalable solutions. I aimed to differentiate my services by emphasizing the importance of collaboration, documentation, and knowledge transfer to mitigate the risks associated with personnel turnover and technology dependencies.
Ultimately, my decision to start my own business was driven by a desire to provide value in an evolving landscape, where the pendulum between automation and human intervention needed careful calibration to achieve optimal outcomes.
What should our readers know about your business?
Getting to where I am today in my business has been a journey marked by challenges, growth, and relentless determination. It certainly hasn’t been easy, but every obstacle I’ve encountered has served as a stepping stone toward success.
My path began with over 15 years of distinguished experience as a Security Professional and United States Army Veteran. This background provided me with invaluable skills and insights into leadership and building robust security programs. However, transitioning from military service to entrepreneurship presented its own set of challenges.
Navigating the complexities of the business world, from developing a business plan to acquiring clients and managing finances, required perseverance and adaptability. I faced numerous hurdles along the way, from competition in the market to uncertainties in the economic landscape.
Yet, with each challenge came an opportunity for growth. I leveraged my expertise and network to differentiate my business and provide unique value to clients. Collaborating with business leaders, I developed strategies that not only addressed technical security concerns but also aligned with broader organizational objectives.
I want the world to know that Veterans are highly skilled professionals ready for improving our society.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Downtown Tucson, park at the MSA Annex, walk the shops, take the train in to down town. Go to the art galleries, look at the nooks and crannies.
When you’re hungry, stop at Empire Pizza but again, you must walk there and be sure to check the alley behind the pizza place because there’s a surprise.
Drive up to the Rincon mountains to peek down and view the city.
