We had the good fortune of connecting with Angela Hampton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

What should our readers know about your business?
Paws 48 started with the dream of opening an indoor dog park—a safe, climate-controlled space where dogs and their people could stay active year-round in Arizona. When that plan didn’t come together financially, I had a choice: give up, or pivot. I chose to build what I could with the resources I had, and that’s how the dog wash and dog gym concept was born.

Getting here was not easy. I faced financial constraints, setbacks, and constant problem-solving, but each challenge forced me to become more resourceful, more resilient, and more creative. The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that success doesn’t come from having perfect conditions—it comes from adapting, listening to your community, and continuing to move forward even when the path changes.

What I want the world to know is that Paws 48 was built with grit, heart, and purpose. We are proof that you don’t have to start big to make a meaningful impact—you just have to start, pivot when needed, and keep showing up for the dogs and the people who love them.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my bestie came to town for a week, we’re doing Phoenix right.

We’d kick things off with brunch at Pedal Haus Brewery—splitting a giant Bavarian pretzel, chicken and waffles, and cucumber coolers. From there, we’d catch a Phoenix Suns or Phoenix Mercury game, then head downtown for some rooftop bar hopping.

The next day starts with a light hike at South Mountain Park, followed by a fresh breakfast at The Farm at South Mountain. After that, it’s shopping at Scottsdale Fashion Square, massages, a nap at the W Scottsdale, and a full night out in Old Town Scottsdale.

Midweek calls for a Sedona day trip—breakfast downtown, walking around town, a stop at Peace Park, and a Pink Jeep tour through the red rocks.

Back in Phoenix, we’d grab drinks at Hula’s Modern Tiki, spend the afternoon at the Phoenix Zoo, then start the night at Sazerac and end it dancing at Charlie’s with tacos to go.

Another day we’re having brunch at The Brunch Snob, then walking around Westgate Entertainment District, lunch at The Thirsty Lion (chicken mac & cheese and pear martinis), axe throwing, Fat Tuesday drinks, and dinner at Manna BBQ.
We’d wrap it all up by taking it easy—walking Tempe Town Lake and Mill Ave, then headed back to Phoenix and catching the 7pm show at Stand Up Live, and ending the night with drinks and potato tacos at Taco Chelo.

Phoenix has a little bit of everything—food, nightlife, nature, culture—and that’s what makes it such a great place to show off.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate this shoutout to my community and the people who believed in the vision of Paws 48 before it was proven—especially the dog parents who trusted us with their dogs, showed up, spread the word, and supported a small business from day one. I also want to recognize my parents, mentors, fellow small business owners, and friends who offered guidance, encouragement, and honest feedback during the toughest moments.
