We had the good fortune of connecting with Angelique Clark and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angelique, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Life Dress was really born out of a desire to spread the pro-life message in a unique and accessible way – through apparel and art. Combining my passion for human rights activism and my tendency for creativity, I found a niche in turning thrifted apparel into pro-life statement pieces. Every Life Dress is completely hand-painted and one-of-a-kind (just like every human life!)

The goal is to equip and outfit activists with the pro-life message so they can go out into the world, spark conversations, and change hearts and minds. That is how we ultimately change culture and end the greatest human rights injustice of our time: abortion.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The art I create for Life Dress is meant to start powerful conversations. But hanging up artwork on a wall in a house or a museum might not get the foot traffic it needs to reach the world. That’s why I paint clothing – something we all put on every day. I started out with dresses and have expanded to anything you can wear.

In addition to everything being hand-painted and highlighting the pro-life message, every Life Dress is also thrifted. A major reason for this is to spread awareness against fast fashion, its impact on human trafficking, and that influence on the abortion industry. I call this the Human Rights Injustice Trifecta.

Painting Life Dresses and running this organization has definitely come with its challenges. Being such a niche, there’s bound to be backlash from people who disagree with the stance against abortion. But that’s really the whole point – to start conversations with a pro-abortion culture and see how many hearts we can reach.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I definitely want to acknowledge my partner organization, Students for Life of America, for working with me since the beginning of my activism journey. My passion for the movement began back in high school where I had to file a lawsuit to get a pro-life club started at my school. SFLA helped me inform my school district of the 1st Amendment and my rights as a student to start this club. Ever since then, I have been involved with SFLA through their various trainings, fellowships, mission trips, rallies, events, and more. They have been an instrumental part of my work as an activist.
