Hi Anissa, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Growing up in the small town of Gallup, New Mexico I never envisioned myself as a business owner. However, the unwavering support and encouragement from my family instilled in me the belief that I could achieve great things. Over the past six years in Arizona, working for others, I discovered that true fulfillment comes from pursuing a personal vision. The drive and satisfaction that comes from promoting something you’ve created are unmatched. I realized that being my own boss gave me the flexibility and freedom to balance my professional and personal life, allowing me to cherish moments with my loved ones—something far more valuable than money. My journey in the beauty industry has been incredibly rewarding, providing me with the opportunity to connect with wonderful clients and build lasting relationships that have enriched my life.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My work is all about reflecting who I am—full of style and personality. I love celebrating everyone’s unique beauty and helping them feel their best. It’s so fulfilling to see people shine with confidence, and that personal touch is key for me. With my dance and cheer background, hair and makeup came naturally, and I’m self-taught, which makes sharing my skills even more fun. Makeup is all about experimenting and changing things up with trends and seasons. I enjoy this career because I don’t stress about being the perfect artist—I’m more focused on being authentic and trusting that the right clients will come my way. One big lesson I’ve learned is that success comes from making connections and understanding that everyone starts from the bottom and works their way up. Success doesn’t happen over night!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d definitely take them to Lux Central for its fantastic atmosphere—it’s the perfect spot to get creative and work on projects while sipping on a delicious chai and enjoying a pastry. The Farmers Market is a must for picking up local goodies, and Uchi is ideal for an unforgettable dining experience!

I want to give a huge shoutout to Danica Rae Beauty, a talented beauty professional and longtime family friend, for having the courage to believe in herself and dive into entrepreneurship!
