We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley R. Carlson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ashley R., what matters most to you?
As a writer and editor–someone who spends most of their time “perfecting” the words on the page–the number-one value to me in my career is completing something to the absolute best of my abilities. That means not only putting my all into every single job, every single page, and with every single client, but also recognizing that I can and must continue to grow as a person and as a writer/editor, and striving to better myself and my craft every day of my life. A huge part of that means not only seeking additional technical training, but also championing inclusion and representation in the writing/editing field and striving never to do harm to a reader or client, while seeking to lift up and amplify all stories, experiences, and perspectives.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
At Utopia Editing & Ghostwriting Services, we strive to offer personalized and detailed editing, ghostwriting, and submission assistance for authors, entrepreneurs, and professionals in a wide range of industries. As the founder and head writer/editor of this boutique Phoenix-based company, I feel very proud to have worked with local authors, specialists, and institutes (among them the Arizona Trauma Institute and the Forward-Facing Institute), as well as dozens of fiction authors living worldwide to help them perfect their words before publication or submission to agents and publishers. Another point of pride for me is Utopia’s success with multiple clients over the years in crafting book proposals and securing deals with top traditional publishers in the nonfiction/self-help genre, with several books we worked on slated for publication in 2022 and beyond. If there’s one thing I’d like people to know about Utopia Editing & Ghostwriting Services after reading this, it’s that their dreams of becoming an author ARE possible–but they need professionals and experts to help them in crafting a quality product. Whether it’s traditional publishing with submissions to an agent/publisher, self-publishing through online channels, or simply wanting to hold a physical copy of the book in their hands, readers should know we have over eight years of experience in helping Arizonans and global clients to make their writing and book dreams come true. We’d love to help you!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’ve lived in Arizona for going on 26 years, and if there’s one thing I pride myself on, it’s knowing where the good, locally owned restaurants are near my home. I’m a vegetarian, but my husband isn’t, and all of these restaurants have incredible and versatile menus for plant-based eaters or carnivores. A few of my favorites: 1) White Chocolate Grill 2) Hula’s Modern Tiki 3) The Salt Cellar (seafood) 4) Hopdoddy (burgers + shakes) 5) Sicilian Butcher and Sicilian Baker (for desserts!) 6) La Santisima Gourmet Taco Shop (Mexican food — my husband’s favorite) 7) Bluewater Grill (seafood) 8) Cibo (pizza)
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to the Forward-Facing Institute and Arizona Trauma Institute–two long-time editing/writing clients who are doing incredibly important things locally in Arizona as well as internationally to treat those navigating trauma, post-traumatic and chronic stress, and to reach those who are suffering from their pasts so that they can heal their present.
