Meet Benji Albrecht | Founder & Chief Marketing Strategist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Benji Albrecht and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Benji, we’d love to hear about a book that’s had an impact on you.
Building a StoryBrand by Donald Miller changed the way I think about marketing. The book walks you through a messaging framework you can use to construct a compelling and authentic brand narrative. The StoryBrand framework also helped me think about my own life in a narrative context and use that perspective to make better decisions. Essentially, I try to make decisions that make myself the hero of my own story, while serving as a guide for others.
I first heard about the messaging framework on the Building a StoryBrand podcast, which is now called Marketing Made Simple. A few months later, the attorney I worked for agreed to send me to Nashville to apply the framework to his business at a live workshop. In the years that followed, we applied the messaging framework to all of his marketing materials and implemented several sales funnels based on StoryBrand methods.
The firm’s marketing became more efficient because we knew what words to include in our marketing materials if we wanted to resonate with the right type of clients. This meant that every dollar we spent on marketing resulted in more consultations and more of our ideal clients. Our efforts were so successful that I changed the focus of my MBA to internet marketing and now use StoryBrand messaging in every project at my digital marketing agency.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
BPAgency is a boutique legal marketing agency serving a select group of law firms throughout the United States. What sets us apart is the time and attention we give to our clients. We focus on building long term, collaborative relationships. By keeping our client base small, we can avoid “check-the-box” marketing strategies and provide a level of care and quality that large agencies often fail to deliver.
Building my business has been anything but easy. The reward for solving any problem is being presented with a bigger problem to solve. I’ve learned to enjoy the process and not to play the comparison game.
Here’s an insight from Tom Bilyeu that gave me perspective on the comparison game: “We’re all chefs given different ingredients, and it’s up to us to make the best dish.” What I took from Bilyeu’s thought is that there’s no use in looking at your neighbor’s ingredients. Create the best dish you can with the time, money, skills, and experience available to you.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Phoenix has so much to offer.
For food we’d have to eat at Pizzeria Bianco. Head chef Chris Bianco’s wood-fired spiedini is a prosciutto wrapped cheese on a stick. We’d order several. Probably one of each pie for the table.
The Green Woodpecker is a great little spot for craft beer on tap. They have a Hazy Pale Ale on tap from Toppling Goliath that’s pretty much the perfect beer. If the night was young, we’d head to Valley Bar for Rose Mofford cocktails and shuffleboard or catch a live show at the Van Buren.
On Sunday, we’d ride road bikes up South Mountain for a panoramic view of the Phoenix Metro area.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My parents (Rachel Albrecht and Joel Albrecht) sacrificed so much to give me the opportunity to pursue my passions growing up. Their belief that I could do anything I put my mind to eventually rubbed off on me. I lean on this confidence daily as I face the ups and downs of entrepreneurship. I will always be grateful for their unconditional love and support.
I should also mention that prominent Arizona tax and estate planning attorney Whitney Sorrell has been a mentor to me for many years. He taught me the importance of mastering my craft and why it’s critical to never stop learning. He was the first attorney to trust me with his firm’s marketing and deserves a huge shoutout for taking that chance on me.
