We had the good fortune of connecting with Bertha Robinson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bertha, what principle do you value most?
My driving core value is authenticity. Being my authentic self has always introduced me to new people and situations that have benefited me and others. In many situations, I’ve have found that I am the only one like me extrinsically and, experientially. That has been stressful at times but it always turns into a great opportunity. I encourage others to embrace their authenticity and walk in it. A fellow mentor recently reminded me that authenticity doesn’t mean others will like or embrace me, but it does give others the opportunity to engage in a new conversation.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a Global Business Coach & Consultant, I love to work with business owners domestically and abroad that need clarity on what their next right action is for them and their teams. Building culture and community is what I love to do through honest communication. Working with businesses that are serious about their growth plan and taking the risks they need to take to get to the next level. They sometimes may need help with their strategy or their mindset to shift priorities and create processes that help them get where they want to be and scale. This work is not easy but I believe in community. I am part of an affiliate group of coaches and consultants, where I get my own professional development three times a year and have access to top coaches to help me clarify my next steps. Building my own business was and is a struggle as for every entrepreneur. However, having a team to support me helps every step of the way.
Another passion of mine is working with the Spanish-speaking community that wants to build their enterprises here in the United States. I partner with SBA-backed organizations that offer free or low-cost programming to provide the professional development they need to succeed.
I am also part of a cryptocurrency community that is will use crypto success to build construction trade schools that will work with former incarcerated, former gang members, and previously homeless to learn new construction trades and start new lives. I love this type of work. I believe in being a Go-Giver, it is so fulfilling and it is in aligment with my purpose of paying it forward.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well if my elementary school best friend was visiting, I would make it this the best trip for her. We call each other, FFF: Forever, Faithful, Friends. I love to cook and it’s part of both of our cultures to show love through our food and time spent together. I would start with a trip to the supermarket and farmer’s market to source the best food for our meals together. One thing my family and I discovered during the pandemic is how wonderful our local and county parks are. We found so many wonderful trails. I would plan trips around all the parks we have close to my home. I would plan a day of bike riding at Duke Gardens Park. I would plan a day around hiking the various trails we have in Somerset. I would plan a day to just be together, reminisce and eat at the park together. Lastly, depending on what season she is visiting with us, I would take her to jazz fest outdoors in Philadelphia. What a great time we can spend there all day together. Most of the time would be spent laughing and remembering our growing up and our families together.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would be remiss if I didn’t shout out Susana Fonticoba. Susana is the one that connected me to your team for this interview. Susana is a fellow member of the NJ Association of Women Business Owners. It is business owners, like her, that I have had the privilege of getting to know and develop strong relationships with. She has run a successful business for herself over multiple decades and is an example for me and others trying to grow our enterprises. I thank her for shouting me out. When I decided to start my own business, I knew I needed to be surrounded by women business owners who had failed fast and succeeded in the rebound quickly. This is the community that has fostered my success. I am grateful.
