Meet Beth Mosey | Baker and cake decorator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Beth Mosey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Beth, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I was a high school English teacher for going on 10 years when the seed for my business was first planted. I was feeling more and more stressed, dealing with the demands of a job and 2 young kids with a third on the way. I started putting more time into baking; cookies, cakes, bars, etc. I would bring treats to work and colleagues began to ask me when I was going to start baking for a living. So I made the decision to move into an industry I knew next to nothing about and joined with a couple of bakeries in my area. I worked to learn and hone the craft. After a rocky four years, I have more time with my family and I get to do what I love — baking delicious treats for all occasions!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Seize the Cake is a home-based bakery that specializes in custom cake. We offer treats of all kinds for any occasion. Our classically elegant designs are homemade using time-tested recipes and techniques that will transport you back to grandma’s kitchen. We are excited to help to make your lives a little bit sweeter.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Welcome, buddy, to the AZ. We are going to have a fantastic time! Day 1: We are heading to Superior and gallivanting through the Boyce Thompson Arboretum. Great hiking. Great scenery. We will then have dinner at Joe’s Farm Grill. Eat outside and enjoy good food and a good sunset.
Day 2: Shopping Day! We are going to start at the Phoenix Premium Outlets. We will then head over to Merchant Square for some antique shopping. We will then end the day with dinner at Board and Batten. Delish food and yummy mocktails.
Day 3: We are road-tripping up North. Lunch at Satchmo’s in Flagstaff, hike the Mt. Eldon Lookout Trail, and then a melt-in-your-mouth dinner at Atria.
Day 4: I’ve got kids, so I love visiting the Phoenix Zoo. We’ll grab dinner at the Salt Celler, and catch a performance with Phoniex Theatre. We will end the night with creamy ice cream from Churn.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband, my family, and my friends. I have an amazing support team, and without them, I would not have the drive. H&S Technical Services. They were one of my first patrons and created the financial boost I needed to get things moving.
