We had the good fortune of connecting with Bevla Reeves and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bevla, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’ve always been ambitious and fiercely independent. I grew up in a family of seven on a military salary. We didn’t have much so if I wanted anything, I had to figure out how to get it on my own. And for some reason, I was oddly fearless and seemingly unstoppable at a very young age. I always felt compelled to break the rules of conformity and to live boldly.

As a teen I voluntarily went to summer school every year just so I could graduate from high school early at 16 to get my career as a hairstylist started. And then went on to travel the world with Prince, Sheila E. and others as a Celebrity Hairstylist.

I decided I wanted to flip houses without experience or money. I flipped 28 houses in 2 years.

Creativity and entrepreneurship as a lifestyle are in my blood; I don’t know how to live any other way.

I’ve helped over 100 women launch and grow their businesses through my former rule-breaking networking group and incubators for Fempreneurs.

I’ve done many bold things in my life as a rebel entrepreneur, and now I’m bringing bold, delicious, highly nutritious packaged savory oatmeal to the masses, prepackaged in convenient, easy to prepare single meals, so they can be bold and break the rules too.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I consider myself a creative first; then an entrepreneur. I’ve always enjoyed making things with my hands. Usually useful things and then putting my unique spin on them. I think that comes from my humble childhood and not having much money. If I wanted something the family couldn’t afford, I always tried to make it out of scraps around the house. And as I got older I started to think, “How can I monetize this thing I just made”? That’s where my passion for creativity and entrepreneurship as a lifestyle comes together.

Starting and running a business is very challenging and can be very lonely. Because no one is going to love your dream as much as you and no one can visualize its success like you. And some of those around you may even think your idea is crazy and try to discourage you from pursuing it. Every day I feel like quitting, but I don’t. And that’s the life of a passionate, determined entrepreneur who is compelled to make their vision come to life. They work hard at it, because they know if it’s successful it will contribute to others in a meaningful way. FLAMING OATS™ premium packaged savory oatmeal is definitely an outlier and not for everyone. But that also makes it exciting and a daring cause worth jumping out of bed for every morning!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh I would definitely take anyone visiting Arizona for the first time to The Chapel of the Holy Cross Vortex in Sedona, the Grand Canyon, Arcosanti for the best vegan lunch I’ve ever had, and closer to home, would be Fashion Square mall and Old Town Scottsdale for shopping and entertainment.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My Shoutout goes to my mother who once told me I could be/do anything I wanted in life; I believed her. And to my father who always supported my dreams, no matter what they were, and would move mountains to help me if he needed to.
