We had the good fortune of connecting with Blake Yard and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Blake, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Photography has always been something that has just made sense. It’s always given me joy to document a situation or a moment for others to look back on years down the road.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I stumbled into Photography through riding bikes and then fumbled for years learning many different styles till i crafted my own. Dabbling in Film and Digital photography and treating each as almost there own art form. i want to get more physical art into the world weather its a zine, print or one day a book.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love Detroit as a whole but i love visiting the unseen portions rather then downtown. besides photography im very passionate about cycling and i think having a full week to travel from one end of the city to the next would be great and hitting all the great smaller restaurants and bars that don’t get the shine like the big names. although i know my coffee would have to come from Bikes&Coffee every day! Yeman cafe has the best Garlic sauce and Bread in the city(Technically Hamntramck but…) and if your any where near eastern market you have to stop and see Carlos of Aunt Nees chips and salsa!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
All my friends! I cannot thank them enough for listening to me for endless hours bouncing ideas around, modeling or assisting me. thanks for trusting my vision and letting me be me!
