We had the good fortune of connecting with Bonni Sue Schopp and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bonni Sue, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The birth of my business happened unexpectedly and seems to be ever-evolving, yet my “why” always remained the same. My goal is to help empower others to heal themselves every place I go around the world.
My journey began 11 years ago, when I first stepped onto a yoga mat after a friend encouraged me to try it out, thinking it would benefit some of my suffering symptoms. At that time, I had a tough time in all aspects of my life. I had endured a very traumatic accident and was dealing with the physical, mental/emotional traumas that stuck with me for years. When I could finally embrace the safety my yoga mat provided me, I began to work through the physical symptoms and understand the emotions and thoughts that were trying to control my life.
In 2016 I moved to Rishikesh, India, the world’s yoga capital, to learn and understand more about yoga and meditation. I wanted to know and truly understand how these practices benefited all aspects of my life and see if I could go further with healing myself. Although, while living in India, studying over 200 hours of yoga, I had no intentions of returning to the states to teach yoga or meditation. It wasn’t until I was on the plane heading home that I knew I had to share this healing with others. Two months after returning to the states, I taught my first yoga class and was officially a healing space holder. I began to travel the country more, spreading love and light everywhere I went and meeting people from so many different walks of life.
Yoga was my stepping stone. It led me towards different “tools” I could use for healing, and I was empowered to heal myself naturally and holistically. As a result, I was attuned to Reiki healing, and shortly after, I moved to Chaing Mai, Thailand, in 2017 to study Thai Massage for a few months. During this time, I could hone my Distance Reiki practice while far away from friends and family.
Plant Medicines such as Cannabis, Psilocybin, and Ayahuasca were no strangers to me and helped guide me to my true calling. After participating in an Ayahuasca ceremony, my shaman talked with me about a Sacred Fire Medicine from the Amazon called Kambô and suggested I look into it. The reasons for this conversation about this medicine were far more profound than I could understand at the time. I almost immediately began working with this medicine, and it transformed my life on a physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual level. Working with Kambô over the past two years led me to become a Certified Kambô Practitioner with the International Kambô Association.
Kambô was the missing link in my healing spaces. Once I began studying medicine, I saw how my previous training and callings had led me precisely to this point. To help others heal physically, mentally, and emotionally. I helped others learn how to utilize their breath and understand their available chakras, meridian maps, and auricular therapies. I have discovered that Kambô calls people from all walks of life, different beliefs, and health concerns, allowing me to be incredibly grateful for the opportunity to help others heal in a safe space.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
In addition to holding sacred space and teaching yoga classes, I love to create Sacred Tools. Throughout my healing journey, I have discovered different tools that help keep me focused through my healing, most of which I have made myself. Most of the tools I create are made to help you release energy no longer serving you, creating space to help you manifest magic. But, they also offer education on better understanding your feelings and emotions or even physical pains and how they can affect us daily. In addition, I help explain our chakra system and the connection to organs and cells within our bodies, as healing is a much larger picture than we expect. I have spent years finding what works, creating an endless spiritual toolbox. But, what I have found that works the best is the power of my intentions. So, I have found ways to make and use Sacred Tools that amplify my intentions and healing, which brings me so much joy to share with others. I make each piece of art feel custom-made, even if it wasn’t a custom order.
When living in India, I learned how to use a mala necklace in meditation. I was surprised at how the tool helped me hold my concentration, and when I would wear the necklace around my neck, I was reminded of the work I did with it, allowing me to carry that energy through the day. I met some women in the city that taught me how to make the knots and explained the importance of the mala and all of its pieces. We chanted while creating healing tools that others could utilize in their practices. Now I incorporate metaphysical crystal healing when making my mala necklaces. Each crystal bead holds different healing properties offering a stronger mindset of healing and ascending.
I believe everyone should have a magic wand. Intention wands are great tools to use during meditation. By holding the wand in your hand, you can speak your intentions out loud so the universe can hear you. The wand is bookended with fluorite crystals, helping you call in the attention of the universe, the selenite in the middle offers your intentions protection and the dried flowers and herbs make it look super pretty.
I live by the motto, “Cleanse, Shield, Protect, Repeat.” I am mindful of my energy and the energy in my home. Feather Cleansing Wands are a fantastic tool that helps me cleanse my energy. By opening all my doors and windows, I light some sage and begin fanning the smoke around my body, the soles of my feet, and in every corner of my house. I call in the bird energy with my Feather Wand, imaging any negative energy being carried by the birds into the heavens to be alchemized. My chakra essential oil blends are great for on-the-go balancing. I created combinations that work with each chakra to help open, balance, and activate by utilizing natural organic healing oils, awakening our senses.
Before creating, I cleanse the energy and open space, calling in Divine Guidance, activating and allowing Reiki to be channeled. Then, I allow The Divine Spirit to flow through me when I am creating, ensuring all of my pieces are one of a kind, made with love, light, and pure intentions. What sets me apart is that people aren’t just getting a beautiful handmade piece but also receiving something to which they can feel the light radiating. I am where I am today because I am a student of life, and I never stop learning, which means there is always more to create and more to share.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Lake Havasu City has some great spots to keep you busy during your stay. A stop at Visionary Healing Art Studio is a must. It is one of my favorite spaces. I can hang out and chat with friends on the couches while enjoying tea. Or even sit and watch the collective of artists create, sparking ideas within me.
First Fridays in Lake Havasu keep the city nightlife popping. From 6-9 pm, we usually have over 40 artists showcasing their handmade pieces, myself included. Everyone sets up downtown on McCulloch, lining both sides of the street.
London Bridge is very popular. Seeing the bridge lit up at night adds a unique ambiance to the city.
I’m a big fan of the energy that is down at the Island. Dive Site 5, an actual scuba dive site, is one of my favorite places to watch the sunset.
Sara Park is a great spot too. Lot’s of hiking and biking trails to explore and see the city from a higher perspective. The 1000 Goddesses Collective of Lake Havasu City, a group trying to help raise the Divine Feminine Energy, raising the earth’s vibrations and filling our planet with compassion, also built a Labyrinth in the area (across the street from the dog park). She is living and breathing, growing as the community and hikers walking by continuing to build and add to her. I am very grateful that I could help organize the labyrinth to be built with other like-minded individuals. It is also the location where I occasionally hold Reiki Moon Ceremonies, where I utilize my Earth Drum, helping to pound the reiki energy into all participants.
So remember to dip your toes in the Lake and try to experience the energy of the many magical Vortexs that fill our land.
Every 2nd and 4th Saturday from 8-12 pm, you can find many vendors also at the Farmers Market. We set up inside and outside of The KAWS. From produce to handmade crafts, we are a one-stop shop.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am where I am with the patience and encouragement of ALL my teachers and gurus, and personal healing space holders. The ones who tell me everything is okay when I feel like things are falling apart. My best friend Koda is also a big helper. He has been my support throughout this entire journey.
Shout Out and tremendous gratitude to all my clients and students, who continually teach me, and push me to learn and evolve to hold the safest container possible.
Music has always been a great support, a way for me to understand my emotions on a deeper level and hear my soul’s song. The band Soja has helped save my life more than once, and I have been lucky enough to follow them on tour across the US in 2013 and thank them personally.
The early stages of my healing journey are full of thanks to Don Miguel Ruiz and his Four Agreements. This book helped me pull my head out of the sand and is a book I constantly refer to for new perspectives.
