We had the good fortune of connecting with BranDee German and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi BranDee, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Sharing something I’m passionate about with the community. Health and wellness is a top priority for me and knowing this relaxing method of improving it, I just couldn’t keep it to myself.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I do have a corporate job that I’ve worked at for 7 years but I’m also a mom. The Salty Seat started out of necessity when one of my kids was born extremely allergic, seemingly to the WORLD. I had to be a stay at home mom for the first 3 years of his life because he had an allergic reaction to everything. Dyes, scents, perfumes, lotions, certain textures, oils, foods. On top of that medications made him break out so when his seasonal allergies got bad it was hard finding him a relief that didn’t cause a reaction. This really started me on a journey to finding natural alternatives to different ailments. Pre-Covid, we lived in Kansas and that’s where I attempted to first open a brick and mortar salt room. I worked with the Small Business Association there but unfortunately was turned away from the banks because of the concept being foreign to the Midwest. We relocated to Arizona in 2021 and sold our house in Kansas. Now we had capital to use to kick start our business. We worked with a realtor to find the perfect location and thought we did until we turned our lease application in and was declined stating they decided to allow an existing tenant to expand into this location. We continued our search to no avail. Our realtor was in the middle of switching companies and it seemed like it would never happen until I was riding with my family and we passed a Buckeye food truck event. The thought came to me, why not create a mobile version in a trailer. Then I wouldn’t have to worry about a building owner turning us away, etc. The search was on for the perfect trailer. We found one already set up with a/c, electricity and even an entry room. It was perfect. We purchased it and went to work creating the salt room. The biggest lesson I’ve learned throughout this process is not to allow the limits others have in their minds, limit me. Believe in yourself and you’re halfway there. Keeping that type of mindset is crucial when starting something new. I want the world to know how passionate I am when it comes to helping others. And my passion in helping others improve and maintain their health and wellness is why I do what I do.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had a friend visiting for a week, I’d definitely take them to Maple and Ash for brunch, we’d go to Poetic Soul on Wednesday evening for some amazing live music and open mic night. We’d take a trip to Sedona and hike whatever trails we could find. I’d take them to the horse stables in Laveen where we board our horse, and I’d let them relax in the salt room.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would definitely have to shoutout my husband. He has been a driving force in helping me start and run The Salty Seat.
