We had the good fortune of connecting with Briana Riley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Briana, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
I think as a parent, one of the most important things I’ve done is teach my kids about money early on. This subject was one that was sort of taboo in my household despite it being such a huge part of all of our lives. And unfortunately, this resulted in me making many poor financial decisions that negatively impacted my quality of life in adulthood.

I did, however, learn from those mistakes. And I was able to see the value in introducing children to key money lessons early on. As a result, my children are already so knowledgeable in this area and I know that is something that will have such a positive impact on their experience in adulthood. My kids have even published their own children’s book to help other children learn key money lessons early on.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a financial literacy and mental health advocate over at majorleaguemommy.com. This is the work that I now do full-time.

Major League Mommy is different than other parenting blogs as it is really a space for Moms of all ages to reconnect with their peace. I am providing them with a variety of tips and tools they can use to improve both their finances and their mental well-being all while managing parenthood.

While I do share tons of other parenting-related content that is beneficial to my audience. I primarily connect with my audience on two very important subjects– mental health and money. These are two areas that I have struggled with quite a bit personally and becoming a Mom made it even more apparent. And I have built a community of Moms that have been or are currently in this same space.

I have been running my blog for 7 years now. However, I didn’t go full-time until January 2021 during the pandemic when I realized that now more than ever parents really needed some guidance on navigating both finances and mental health. I wanted to be the light through the darkness and that is why I do what I do.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am really into the outdoors so I would just love to go hiking with my friend so we can wind down and catch up without all the extra noise.

I don’t really have a specific itinerary in mind as I really just like to go with the flow and let things unfold naturally. I do like to be around other people, so I do like to hang out at the Arizona Boardwalk and grab something to eat because there are so many different people and families always hanging out there.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my husband and kids who have been a vital part of my growth. They are my biggest motivation and much of my growth is due to their love, support, and ability to see the greatness in me even when I couldn’t see it in myself.
