Meet Bryce & Paul Perkins | Founders of SipTale

We had the good fortune of connecting with Bryce & Paul Perkins and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bryce & Paul, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
We did not see ourselves represented on the shelves, both in what we like to drink and people that look like us. SipTale is all about creating stories with family and friends and we loved the social aspect of the liquor business, from the laughs to the elaborate stories all the way to the family cookouts. So we wanted to create a brand that encompassed both community and flavor.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Our journey into business is one that we would say is out of the ordinary. We both have huge backgrounds in sports, playing all different sports as a youth and finally landing on football in high school. After high school we earned football scholarships to schools were we would eventually graduate from: Bryce Perkins (UVA) Paul Perkins (UCLA). Both of us went on to set records in our respected positions and garnered the attention of the NFL. Bryce Perkins went on to play for the Los Angeles Rams for a number of years, going on to win a Super Bowl which was a crowing achievement for the entire family. Paul Perkins was drafted and played for Giants for a number of years and eventually finished his career with the Colts. Our father being a standout football player as well played for the Colts, Browns and Buccaneers, and taught us so much about life, resiliency and hard work. Our mother being heavily involved in gymnastics and the arts shaped us to think creatively, while also giving us the tools to believe in ourselves no matter the circumstance.
Our journey was not easy nor was it planned, but with the teachings and lessons we learned from our parents and our sports background. We were able to apply much of the things we’ve learned to business. A hurdler does not complain that there are obstacles in their way, they simply attack them head on and overcome them, and approach the next hurdle the same way.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If we had a friend come in town, which we do often. We would try to show them as much as possible, and depending on their time we could accomplish a lot. First step would be to show them all of the natural beauty that is here in Arizona, contingent on the whether or not its triple digits outside, we would show them all that nature has to offer like Camelback, Antelope Canyon, Hours Shoe Bend . From to our mountains to our lakes to our botanical garden, Arizona is not short on breathtaking views. After we’ve done that, take them to a show at the Black Theater Troupe or our many different theater companies in the state. Once we’ve enjoyed some art, we would explore the malls in Scottsdale and get some souvenirs specific to Arizona. Then at night we would explore Downtown Phoenix and its many restaurants and stroll through Scottsdale. You can not go wrong eating here, the hard part is determining what you want to eat.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Without a doubt our parents deserve the biggest shoutout. From youth sports all the way to our entrepreneurial journey, our parents have been rooting us on. They have done the work to ensure that we are fully supported and loved throughout the entire process. Their knowledge and wisdom is something we lean on constantly, and we would not be where we are today without them.
