We had the good fortune of connecting with Busy Lizzie and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Busy Lizzie, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Honestly, I never thought about pursuing a career in the arts. I’ve always had an artistic and creative outlook on life—it was like second nature. Maybe that’s why I never thought about it as a career. The day I decided to do art full time as a career was the day I realized I couldn’t bear to live without it. The thought of waking up in the morning and going to a job where I couldn’t practice my creative abilities made me fearful. So I guess I didn’t choose art; it chose me.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Getting where I am today was definitely not easy. I started posting digital art on my instagram a few years ago thinking it would be a great way to share it with my closest friends and family – not thinking at all that people would want to buy my art. My social media following started growing and I started getting commission requests. The last year I’ve been doing animation work as well as painting in addition to the digital illustration work I’ve always done. When I have off days and get frustrated at the slow growth I remind myself that I started this business from nothing but a true love for creating. It has blossomed into something more that a ‘career’. Art is not a career for me, it’s a way of life.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take her to an artsy cafe in my area, then we would go to one of the parks in my city and just explore. And I would take my camera with us to capture all the excitement of course!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Without my wonderful, supporting clients and followers I wouldn’t be able to do this. They are giving me the opportunity to create art that inspires, motivates and hopefully encourages other dreamers. I’ll forever be grateful to them. My family supports me in chasing a dream that even I sometimes struggle to fully see and understand myself.
