We had the good fortune of connecting with Cafe Pico and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cafe, what do you want people to remember about you?
I want to be the artist that really puts Phoenix on the map for the new generation. I remember the buzz that we had going when Willy Northpole was doing his thing and everyone in Arizona was riding for him. More importantly, I want South Phoenix to have another person to be proud of.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I don’t think anyone out here sounds like me and I love setting myself apart from everyone else. I think it was more natural than easy. My sound is a combination of all of my influences on me with my unique spin on it. I want people to know that I’m me. I am authentically me.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I want them to check out the Southside then the first place we are going to eat is Tam’s. To drink and visit, somewhere cool downtown like Valley Bar or Hanny’s. Then we hit Lolo’s and Poncho’s before they leave town. There are other places but those are on top of the list.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family is my support system and I wouldn’t be here without them. My soon to be son is motivating me more than anything I ever could have imagined. My fans deserve a lot of credit because they could be listening to anyone else but they are bumping me.
