Meet Cameron Macneille | Salon Owner & Hairstylist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Cameron Macneille and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cameron, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
I love this question! I like to think I keep a healthy work/life balance. I have a separate phone for work (my salon phone) that I will leave at home during personal time and it has set hours for “Do not disturb”. I only respond to clients and inquiries during my work day’s & business hours. It’s been an amazing change I made a few years back.

What should our readers know about your business?
Sunbird Salon is a salon studio located in the heart of Tempe, Arizona. We are on Mill Ave along the beautiful palm trees in a cute little area! At Sunbird Salon, we specialize in hair extensions and all things hair health! I personally only do transformative extension looks as well as blonding. My co-stylist, Koral Sherman, specializes in hair extensions and vivid colors (rainbow hair, color blocking, fantasy, etc).

I decided to open Sunbird for my clientele. They have all been so supportive of me and my dreams as a hairstylist, I wanted to create a safe and private space for everyone!

I currently have a chair open for rental and this has been a challenge to find someone we trust and can be reliable to work with. We are hoping to add a 3rd stylist to Sunbird soon! I’ve definitely learned I need to take my time finding someone and it’ll happen in the right moment.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would have to say Downtown Mesa would be the hangout for local food and cocktails. There are so many amazing businesses in Mesa and Tempe. The Chiwas restaurants are hands down my favorite! Tacos Chiwas & Espiritu in Downtown Mesa and then Cocina Chiwas in Tempe! My go to breweries are Chupacabra and Phantom Fox, everyone I’ve taken to these places have loved them! We’d have to go up to Scottsdale and Sedona for some tourist things as well. Scottsdale has some amazing western boutiques and activities. There’s a boutique called Norde that has tons of western fashion and they also have a sister store called Turquoise Candy Hat Bar where you can make a custom cowboy hat!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shoutout my baby sister Megan, she always gives me an unconditional amount of love and support whether it’s personal or business. She is like my baby and makes me want to do better and succeed everyday!
