We had the good fortune of connecting with Carly Wilsey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Carly, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was me being completely obsessed with all things health and fitness and after going through my own personal experience with my own health and competing as an NPC figure competitor I realized quickly that being healthy wasn’t what most of us thought. Being healthy wasn’t actually about having 6 pack abs or being 5% body fat but actually feeling good and having healthy relationships with both food and exercise. I wanted to create my own business so that I could teach and help other women realize that being healthy is what’s most important and you don’t have to be shredded or super muscular to be healthy. That what’s most important is creating healthy relationships with food and exercise so that you can create a long lasting healthy lifestyle. I wanted to solve that problem for the women who were continuing to do crash fad diets that led to no results and who were completely miserable and tired of losing weight just to gain it all back and more.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What set’s me as a coach apart from the rest in this industry is my continuous motivation and support for my clients and daily motivation towards my overall audience on social media. I don’t just talk to the talk, I walk the walk. I am 100% practicing what I preach and I’ve had first hand experiences and faced weight gaining challenges, health issues and other personal set backs throughout my life that most coaches have not. Behind the scenes, it’s just me, No one else is doing the work and each client I have, I get to really connect with to learn more about them and their health history. I have a story that tells women that they can lose fat, feel good and create overall healthy relationships with food and exercise without restricting themselves from food or doing extreme amounts of cardio. I’m most proud of how far The Health Babe brand has come! I’ve continued to stay consistent and show up for my audience and let them gain the trust they need from me to keep my business going. The fitness industry is not easy, it’s frustrating and competitive and some days are harder than others… heck some months are harder than others. I got to where I’m at today by simply staying consistent, being real, raw and honest and showing my audience and clients that my love for what I do is beyond any amount of money I could receive and just a strong passion and calling that I’m meant to do. A lesson that I’ve learned along the way is to be yourself, no matter what! Like I said before the industry is competitive and there’s always going to be someone out there with better ideas, things you wish you could of thought of and sometimes you think there’s no way you’ll make it in this industry but really there are SO many people out there who need help reaching their health and fitness goals and if you continue to be your real authentic self people start to recognize and appreciate that more than being scripted and fake just to attract a bigger audience. What I want the world to know about me and my business is that I know through my own personal story that there’s more to life than working out and meal prepping. We also need to do this thing called life, we need to live and enjoy our time here on earth and you need to know that if you really want to enjoy this life and thrive in all areas of your life, you need to feel your best. You need to make taking care of yourself a daily routine and build healthy habits that are maintainable and sustainable for your life and goals. The Health Babe brand does just that for women! I help busy on-the-go working women, women who are nurses and stay at home moms create the healthiest, most maintainable balance with food and exercise so that they can feel their best, and achieve their individual goals. Creating a healthy lifestyle is never about perfection but about progression and becoming the best, happiest, healthiest version of yourself that you can be!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love this question! I always have to be doing something and enjoy being on-the-go when I’m not home working! So starting off a week long vacation in AZ would first start at my favorite juice bar, Kaleidoscope Juice! All of the food/drinks they offer are SO yummy! After getting a yummy drink, getting outside during AZ’s beautiful March weather is a must so my go-to outside spot is The Scottsdale Quarter! A beautiful and fun outside shopping mall with amazing stores and yummy restaurants. After a little shopping my go-to food source in Scottsdale is True Foods. I absolutely love the gluten free, grain free, vegan and vegetarian options they have on the menu and everything taste AMAZING! Another spot I love for a bit more active fun is Top Golf! There are a few locations in AZ so I’ll either go to the Scottsdale location or the Gilbert location. Top Golf is a fun way to move your body and have a bit of competitive fun! Finally, I’d finish at my favorite coffee bar, Black Rock! Again, lot’s of locations over the valley so that makes it easier to find one but I love the coffee and always get a decaf almond milk latte, it never fails to taste great! Arizona has so many fun things to do and yummy restaurants to eat at so you won’t have a hard time filling up your schedule with things to do! Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My story goes way back, back to high school days when I was playing sports year round so my parents are definitely to thank for me being so passionate for the love of all things health and fitness. They owned their own gym back in the day and both were always working out and setting good, healthy examples of how we should eat and take care of our body. As I grew older and got into competing my mom cooked and put together all of my meals, they supported me during my competition days even when I was hangry and tired. I met my husband during my third competition prep and he has supported me and helped me to continue to open my eyes to true health and taking care of myself. He helped me get through some of the hardest times with my health and if it wasn’t for him I’m not sure where I would be with my business or life. Family is SO important to me, they’re everything and I’m so blessed to have them on my side, always.
