We had the good fortune of connecting with Carol Campos and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Carol, what role has risk played in your life or career?
For most of my life I was completely risk-averse. I was a very sensitive and shy child, preferring to stay under the radar. I didn’t want to be teased or judged and, unfortunately, this kept me from trying new things. But, as I got older, the Universe would give me nudges to get me out of my comfort zone. I often joke that I used to be a “brick-to-the-head” type of person, meaning I would ignore subtle signs and synchronicities. First the Universe would give me a gentle tap, then a nudge, then a shove, until finally I’d get the “brick to the head” in the form of some personal or professional catastrophe, forcing me to pay attention and take action.

I stayed in toxic jobs and relationships way too long and it affected my health and self-esteem. I was so mentally and emotionally beat down that it was easier to stick with what I knew, even if it was terrible. It was only when things got so terrible that I couldn’t stand it any more that I could muster the energy to exit the situation. This dynamic played out in different scenarios for decades until 2012, when I had a spiritual awakening of sorts. After three decades of an on and off incredibly dysfunctional relationship, I ended it for good. It was then that I started to heal and it felt like bits of my soul came home.

As I started to heal and claim my self-worth, standing up for myself, drawing boundaries and taking risks became easier. In 2018 I left my corporate career and jumped into the unknown. I had no job lined up. I wasn’t sure where life would lead me. But I trusted that I was being supported and guided by something bigger than myself. People who had known me for years couldn’t believe that I was taking such a risk. Truthfully, I couldn’t believe it myself. But this one decision has changed everything for me. I have grown in ways that I couldn’t have imagined.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I left a 22-year corporate career to pursue a life that felt aligned with my true self. The challenge was that I didn’t know what that would look like. I hired a coach and, as I learned to connect with my own higher wisdom, pieces of the puzzle came into focus. I wasn’t shown the whole path. The Universe tends to send one step or what I refer to as “Divine Breadcrumbs” at a time. I started a podcast with my best friend and a blog where I detailed many of the pivotal moments in my own life. Things started to move quickly and I realized that I could combine my business experience with these new, aligned interests. I decided to coach and mentor women on topics such as empowerment, life transitions, and manifestation. It felt as if my whole life had prepared me for this and it felt amazing–and scary! But, it was worth the risk.

Starting my business was easy. Keeping it up and running was not. I had been so naïve when I left corporate. I wrongly assumed that because I was following my soul’s calling that automatically things would fall into place. There were a lot of hard-earned lessons along the way and although I don’t have regrets, the path would have been easier had I done my due diligence and research. What kept me going when I hit a wall was remembering why I wanted this new life in the first place. I thought about my mission to help women feel great about themselves and pursue their own Divine Breadcrumbs. I thought about how much I loved the ability to design my own day and to have the time to pursue my own passions. These thoughts always energized me and helped me to push through.

Over these last few years I’ve learned so much about myself. I’m so much stronger and resilient than I thought I was. I have gifts to bring to the world and until I took the risk to make this huge pivot, I don’t know that I truly believed that. I’ve learned to trust my intuition. I’ve learned that being sensitive is a superpower and not something to overcome. I’ve learned that taking risks can be amazing if you follow the energy of what feels good.

Because I teach from a place of what I have experienced personally and what tools have worked for me, I tend to attract clients who are looking for an authentic and compassionate teacher. I don’t pretend to have it all figured out as I’m on this journey just like everyone else. But, I have learned some valuable lessons along the way and I’m always grateful that I get to help others avoid the pitfalls I experienced. My approach is gentle, but effective. I’m not a “take massive action” type of gal, unless that is what I’m being called to do. I’ve found that small, incremental steps work best for most of us. My unique blend of business and practical experience combined with my love of the metaphysical and magical provide my clients with a well-rounded approach to life’s challenges.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love my little town–and it is little! I’m an early riser and love being out in nature. I would first bring them to the little family-owned coffee shop in the center of town. It’s been in business or over 40 years and has the best coffee and homemade donuts! After getting our coffee to go, we’d head over to the lake and walk one of the trails, breathing in the scent of pine needles and listening to the cacophony of birds greeting the morning.

For lunch we’d head over to Isadore’s Organics for one of their delicious sandwiches. Justin, the owner, always greets me by name and I’d introduce him to my friend. Knowing Justin, he’d gift us with a treat, like a few slices of a new cheese that had just come in.

Clara Barton, founder of the American Red Cross, was born and buried in my town and visitors can visit her home, the Clara Barton Birthplace Museum. It’s nothing fancy, but it’s interesting to learn some of what she experienced during the Civil War and the impact her work has had.

Of course, if time allowed, we’d take the train into Boston and catch a Red Sox game at Fenway Park. The sounds and smells at the park make you feel that you have one foot back in time. It’s always good time!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
None of us get through this journey alone and there were so many people put in my path who helped me along the way. What’s interesting is that sometimes your biggest support comes from an unexpected place, making it all the more special. There are countless people to thank, but I’d like to give a shoutout to my younger sister, Wendy. We are different in so many ways and when I started down this new road, claiming that I would write, coach, and talk about metaphysics, energy healing, and alchemy, I was afraid of her reaction. Wendy is a scientist after all. When I began telling her my plan, I could tell she had her doubts. All her life she had known me as someone who didn’t “put myself out there.” But she nodded and gave polite encouragement.

As I made my way down the entrepreneurial path, I had some personal wins like getting a column in a magazine or being interviewed on a podcast. Wendy continually praised me, often saying how proud she was of all that I had accomplished. There were some really dark days too. I cried on the phone to her more than once. She never said “you shouldn’t have left your job.” She always reminded me of how far I’d come and how many great things I had achieved. It was the shot in the arm I needed to keep going. There have been multiple pivots along the way and with each one she was there cheering me on. I’m so grateful for her support.
