We had the good fortune of connecting with Casey Fehr and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Casey, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?

I had always had a passion and drive to tell stories through video, I just didn’t know it at the time. I remember days when I was a kid, I would use my parent’s camcorder and make movies with my legos and toys. That evolved into my friends and I making action packed adventures in the backyard and around the neighborhood. It wasn’t until high school and college that I dove into editing and began to develop my skills as a storyteller.

When I graduated high school and went off to collage at ASU, I actually went as a pre-med student but I couldn’t pass chemistry to save my life so I changed my major to something that I loved. To the disappointment of my parents, I wasn’t going to be a doctor, I was going to be a starving artist lol. I honestly don’t know what else I would be doing if I didn’t pursue this career. There was no looking back for me and I really have been blessed by every opportunity and can’t believe some of the experiences I’ve had because of it. To my surprise I’m not starving but thriving. I’ve been successful in my own eyes and I am still pushing forward to achieve the next goal- whatever that may be.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I got my start in the church world and that’s always been a big part of my career and my art. I worked full-time in ministry for about 8 years creating videos and I learned so much by doing that. It’s not everyday that you find work as a creative that forces you to try so many new things and a wide variety of storytelling styles. I was creating testimony videos, event recap videos, music videos, animated bumpers and sizzles, teaching videos, broadcast, live concerts (kind of), to full on narrative. Every week was something different! Now that came with its own you unique challenges, I had to think on my feet and problem solve and I learned to be pretty scrappy. We weren’t working with full crews, we would be a team of about 3-4 and I learned how to do a bit of everything. Lighting, cinematography, photography, audio, animation, editing: the full package. This really translated into the corporate scene, which is what I have been doing since 2019. Each field is full of its own challenges and you just have to take things one day at a time. I’ve been learning a lot about the business side of being an entrepreneur these last few years and I think that’s been the hardest. It’s one thing to want to create and make videos, it’s a different beast running a business.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Oh man there are so many people that have been a part of my journey and supported me throughout the process. First off I would like to thank God, it might sound cliche but there have been so many random situations and circumstances where opportunities have fallen into my lap and I wasn’t even looking. Which to me can’t be anything else but God providing for me. Matt Price was the man that gave me a full-time job when he really had no reason to. I was so inexperienced at the time and yet he took a chance on me. Fernando Orona has been a huge mentor to me in leadership and life in general. He’s someone that has always been there when times were tough and is someone that I continue to work with today. Monte Yazzie has been a bounce board for creative and narrative projects. He’s been there since my day one and is someone that has pushed me to dream big and go after it. Last but not least, my wife Paige Fehr who loves me and supports me through it all. Often times these projects take me away from home all day, sometimes even out of state where I’m working on the road, and she puts up with all of the craziness that filmmakers have to deal with.
