We had the good fortune of connecting with Yuri Bejarano and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Yuri, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” By Marianne Williamson
I love how empowering and liberating it is!
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I believe what sets me apart from others in my genre is the fact that I get to know my seniors and customize each session so that it’s meaningful them. I like to get my seniors involved and work closely with them in bringing their dream session to life.
Nothing gets me more excited during a session than seeing their confidence shine through their eyes. In todays world they’re constantly seeing “perfect” images on social media and second guessing their own beauty, I love to use my gift of photography to show them just how beautiful they truly are! Booking a session with me is so much more than just “pretty pictures” it’s about building confidence and leaving an impact on their lives.
Business wise, I have learned that not everyone is your client and that’s ok! Also, learning how to price my self was one of the hardest parts for me because I could honestly do it for free that’s how much I love it. But I was running my photography business as a high end boutique and my pricing needed to reflect that. I learned that just because “I” wasn’t my ideal client, it didn’t mean that the service I was offering wasn’t worth the asking price. I overcame that block by simply praying this small little prayer over and over again, “God, please help me get out of my own way” anytime I had limiting thoughts. Before I knew it was booked several months in advance and my new pricing was never an issue.
I was asked by a client the other day, “how did you know you wanted to do this?” I shared that ever since I was a little girl, I always had a camera in my hand. I would pose and direct my cousins with my little disposable cameras. I even remember getting teased by them as they would say “she thinks she’s a photographer” as they complained while I was posing them. Hehehe and then my client said, “so it was always in you”, and he was right! I believe we all have a gift and a purpose in life and I feel so incredibly grateful that I get to do what I love for a living.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m fairly new to Arizona so I don’t know all the fun and interesting spots quite yet but going to Sedona for the day would be a must! I live in Anthem so the shops at Norterra would be another must, having dinner at the Mellow Mushroom for at least one of the nights, grabbing a cup of coffee at Elevate Coffee Company or a tea at Urban Boba Tea House are some of my favorite spots so far. I would take them Downtown and show them all the beautiful art that’s on Roosevelt row. Depending on the weather have a lake day at Lake Pleasant and do some hiking at Cave Creek Regional Park to really bask in the beauty of Arizona. And maybe rent a few ATV’s at New River Off Road Rentals to really explore this beautiful desert.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support and encouragement of my husband! Not only has he been my biggest fan from day one but he’ll go with me on sessions to assist me in anyway that he can even after a long day of work. Having a supportive spouse makes the world of difference.
