We had the good fortune of connecting with Chase Sahlin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chase, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I wanted to find something that was both helpful for others as well as something I was passionate about and would enjoy working on. Growing up an athlete, I was always playing sports, whether it was organized athletics or just messing around with my friends. I was pretty talented playing a variety of sports, but strength and athleticism was not something I was blessed with at the time. Being a late bloomer, strength and athleticism was something that held me back in my playing career. I recognized this weakness and wanted to make a change. I started going to the gym every weekday with my cousin at 3am before school. After about a month I started to see some changes in my strength and body and have pretty much been hooked ever since that time. I started Build Your Body Fitness because I realize that physical fitness is one of the biggest struggles of our country and truly believe that I can help anyone not only improve their physical fitness, but also work with them to create a realistic workout and meal plan that they enjoy and is sustainable long term.

What should our readers know about your business?
After I graduated college in 2020, I was thrown out into the real world in the middle of a pandemic. My days consisted of applying to countless jobs and not getting any responses in a very tough market. That is when I started Build Your Body Fitness. I continued my job hunt but fitness blogging became a bright light in my life during some very gloomy days. After about 3 months of searching, I found a position as a Technical Recruiter that I enjoyed for the most part. The one con being, I did not realize the time commitment of a 9-5 position. Unfortunately, blogging took a backseat to my profession and my posts started to slow down. On top of that, during the summer of 2021 I broke my leg playing in a city league softball game. I was devastated to hear that I would be on crutches for the next 5 months, forcing my fitness to take a backseat as well. I had a lot of time to think during this time, and I decided I wanted to make fitness blogging a priority again. I logged back in to my website, and took a deep dive into the content I was posting and realized that it wasn’t me anymore. I had learned lessons from my experiences, grown as a person, and wanted to go in a new direction with my blog. So I wiped my content and started new with a better understanding of not only what I wanted my blog to look like, but also the challenges that people face in their fitness journey. The challenges I have faced over the past couple years have equipped me to be an empathetic leader who is capable of tackling challenges with my clients.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My time in Phoenix has been fairly short but absolutely great so far! I have been giving this question some thought lately because I have a couple friends coming to visit me soon. Some of the things that I would be sure we do is go to a Phoenix Suns game, play some pickleball at one of the parks in the area, Top Golf in Scottsdale, drinks and watch some college football at Boondocks, dinner at Cocina Madrigal, drinks and watch some NFL Football at Barstool Scottsdale, and some hot dogs at Brat Haus. That is a busy week but there is so much to do here!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am extremely lucky with the people that are in my life. Having the support of my friends, family and girlfriend is something that I cannot be thankful enough for. I am appreciative of my family raising me to value helping others in any way I can and putting me in a place where I can pursue my passions. I am thankful for my girlfriend who challenges me and holds me accountable in my every day life and supports me when life gets hard. Thank you all so much!
