We had the good fortune of connecting with Chelsea Beckton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chelsea, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
The habit that I would say helped me succeed is my desire to put at least one ear or toe into everything. That was an interesting way to say it but by this I mean, I want to know about almost everything. Whether it be different art mediums or IT, sports, interior design, etc. I have probably either learned about it, submerged in it, or tested it out once. One thing I just thought of that I haven’t tried, is glass blowing. This doesn’t mean I haven’t asked about it before though. Curiosity didn’t “kill the cat.” Being curious helped me discover a plethora of options so that I can find exactly what I enjoy doing the most, and what I am best at. Plus, it gives you plenty of other hobbies to do in your spare time.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Chelsea’s Digital Art and Photography (CDAAP) is a company that specializes in all things digital and visually creative. We currently specialize in Customs, Digital Marketing, Art and Photography. As a company, CDAAP is most proud of its versatility. What sets us apart is the undeniable gratitude that is given to our customers, and the love and ingenuity that goes into each and every product or service provided.

I soft launched this business in 2014 when the number of requests for art and photography services started to increase. It was towards the latter end of my high school career and my parents encouraged the idea of starting a business while you’re young.
Fast forward to after college, I was working part time, traveling, and getting inspired to create more art like I used to. However, this time I didn’t want to just use canvases anymore, and thought, “How can I make art that you show off outside of the house?” This is how customization came about and what really started to get new eyes on the company. Simultaneously working in marketing is helping me polish my skills on how to grow and conduct yourself in business.

I truly got to this point by being curious and open to learn. The journey wasn’t necessarily conventionally easy but felt that way because I genuinely enjoyed it and had encouraging people around me. Being creative came naturally and being analytical came naturally which helps you in turn be able to run a creative business. Working by myself has been tough, but I have had to learn to work at a good pace, not be so hard on my myself, take breaks; essentially finding ways to prevent burnout.

I work as a full time Marketing Specialist and run CDAAP as a creative and now Social Media Manager. The hardest part about this is not wanting to give up or slack in either one. I’ll be the first to admit that I am still working out how to minimize some of the chaos and time I work yet increase my value. I don’t say this in a selfish way either. I want to be able to provide the absolute best service so that it is worth every dollar someone invests, but still be well rested, timely, and balance a healthy social life. I think I do pretty well so far, but there’s always room for improvement and I love the journey nonetheless.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If someone were to visit West Palm Beach, I would offer to take them to the beach, Rosemary Square which is weird to say because I’ve always known it as Cityplace and downtown Northwood area. Who visits south Florida without wanting to hit the beach? I would go just for an out of towner although I rarely go myself nowadays. Singer Island or Jupiter Beach for the win. Rosemary Square is downtown entertainment, movies, and night life. Then, my favorite type of scene is the Northwood area. It has quaint businesses, interesting events and days when artists come out, sell their artwork and talk about their craft. I love the feeling of being able to support other artists and maybe network to collaborate.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to give a shoutout to my family members and close friends who never, ever belittled my creative side. Honestly, I did a lot of technical things in life, and they encouraged me to not forget about art! Growing up I went to art school, but my favorite subject was math. I also studied Communications & IT but there was always someone to call and ask, “hey would you take my photos,” or “could you draw/paint something for me?” and remind me that I am talented. Then I have to mention my best friend Amani who has known me since I was 8, and we grew up ‘artist and muse’. She continually supports everything I do.
