We had the good fortune of connecting with Nia Blake and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nia, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for them?
Being a parent is one of the most important aspects of my life. Every decision I make evolves around my children’s wellbeing. Parents are the most influential in a child’s life, I am raising my children to trust in GOD, be creative, self-aware, leadership & encourage them to lead with love.

I ask my kids “what is something you notice about me as a parent” and it’s the little things to show you care & being present.

I became a mother at 20 years old, while in college. I understood that leaving school was not an option and I wanted to provide stability for my son. I was grateful to have a great support system & my family encouraged me to continue college and graduate. My son was my motivation, when I look back, I realized he saved me & became my purpose.

I learned parenting with positive reinforcement, quality time, positive communication and affection influences their development and promotes a loving environment.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I established Nia B. Fitness LLC in November 2020, I lost my job as a consultant and felt it was the perfect opportunity to follow my passion and start a business. After the birth of my 13-year-old twins I took a personal oath to make my health a priority. I started exercising to workout videos at home and gradually made my way to the gym. Initially, I was intimidated and nervous about using the machines, then I stumbled onto an instructor led strength training class. Consistently taking the classes gave me the confidence and comfort of taking training to a different level.

My mantra as a trainer is to promote a safe training environment, not only hazard wise, also expressive communication. Listen to your body, we can always adjust and modify exercises. What sets my business apart is my clientele focal point is women of color. I understand the misconceptions of physical activity WOC face, I promote maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Physical, mental and clean eating are all components for maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Challenges I have overcome is becoming a certified personal trainer during a pandemic. I started training clients virtually and there were moments of uncertainty, if I would be able to maintain a career in the fitness industry. I continued my journey and train part-time at Flex House located in Gilbert, AZ.

Lessons I have learned along the way is to trust the process not only when it comes to results but grinding and growing a business, consistency is an important factor. Having a business plan is an important aspect of any business, having a sound plan and goals.
