We had the good fortune of connecting with Chelsea Rainer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chelsea, what is the most important factor behind your success?
My success as a gymnastics coach and in program/ business growth and development can be attributed to a strong focus on cultivating a positive culture within North Valley Gymnastics and within the gymnastics industry. While elite-level gymnastics often leads to anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and burnout, I am committed to fostering an environment that prioritizes the development of the whole person, not just the athlete. This cultural shift has transformed North Valley Gymnastics into a haven for athletes nationwide, where they can train, grow, and develop both as individuals and as athletes. Our environment challenges them athletically and helps them build essential life skills.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been coaching competitive gymnastics for over 20 years, achieving more than I ever imagined as both a coach and a manager focused on program growth and retention. When I helped start Arizona’s first competitive trampoline program, there were only 13 athletes in the state and no recreational programs. Today, the trampoline and tumbling program at North Valley Gymnastics is one of the largest and most successful in the country, with enrollment that triples that of any other gymnastics facility in Arizona. I take pride in running a highly successful and profitable program while also nurturing athletes who have competed at prestigious events such as the World Championships and the 2024 Trampoline Gymnastics Olympic Trials.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When people come to visit me, I love to take them to all the delicious foodie spots around Phoenix. We would spend a day boating at Lake Pleasant followed by a meal at Dillon’s.
We would spend time in Cave Creek walking around and eating at El Encanto.
Brunch at Hash Kitchen is always a must for visitors and well as a delicious Italian meal at Fabio on Fire.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to my amazing husband! I can’t thank him enough for his endless support as I’ve traveled the world for work, and for understanding all the countless hours I’ve spent at my computer when I should have been helping out around the house. He always ensure our family’s needs are met while also crushing his own personal and professional goals. He’s incredible, and I appreciate him more than words can say!
