We had the good fortune of connecting with Chris Mierzejewski and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chris, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
At Hot Spot Yoga we aim to support mental and physical health, community connection and education. Through the practice of yoga, one can expect to have a transformative experience, bringing together the mind and body connection. We promote body positivity, gratitude, and kindness. In addition, creating a space for our community to gather allows for friendships and connections to grow between individuals who may not have met otherwise. Hosting events and having a space for people to talk to one another after classes help to build that community connection. Through the teachings at our studio, we are also able to educate our community on the history and culture of yoga, spreading awareness of the amazing impact and gifts yoga has to offer.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Growing up I never really knew what I wanted to do for a living. After trying a few things here and there I decided to work part-time and take a yoga teacher certification course. This training opened my eyes to the inner work that yoga does for us and I knew I wanted to share it. As I began teaching at studios throughout the valley, I also started working privately with students one-on-one. I truly appreciated the connections I was building with my students and knew my calling was to share my love for yoga with others. As my private business grew I started to dream of one day having my own studio space where I was able to bring people together from all walks of life. I eventually met a few, kind, small business owners in the east valley who saw the potential of Hot Spot Yoga and provided me with the space and encouragement to bring my dream to life. Even to this day I still go through moments of doubt. I know that my biggest challenge can sometimes be myself and that’s something I work on everyday.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Arizona has so much to offer and living in Phoenix allows us to easily visit other parts of the state and country. Depending on the time of year I would make sure to take my friends up to Sedona or Prescott. The small town feel of these places are so inviting and there’s so much to explore. I’d also plan some time to hike some trails close by Phoenix. Living in the east valley I love to go out to Superstition or San Tan Mountain. I also really enjoy the thing to do in downtown Gilbert. We would probably go dancing at Whiskey Row or grab a bite to eat at OHSO. Gilbert has a great farmers and craft market on Saturday that you can wander through for hours!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I wouldn’t have taken the leap of opening my own studio without the support and encouragement of my friends and family. Every time I doubted myself or questioned if I was capable to taking such a huge risk, my support system reminded me that I was not alone and more than equipped to make my dreams of owning a studio come true.
