We had the good fortune of connecting with Christopher Molinari and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christopher, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
Thelonious Monk as a quote: “A genius is the one most like himself.” What I value most is self-discovery and the endless journey of trying to be one’s best self.

Earlier in life, I did a lot of spiritual practice with the goal of being my best self. The issue was that it was all fabricated. It was a made up idea of who I was and the best ways to spend my time. Little did I know that the real secret lied in trusting my own likes and dislikes and valuing them. Valuing my taste. In short, valuing who I am.

So now I really appreciate those who have done some work to discover themselves and act upon that knowledge. It makes for interesting people and a more compassionate, understanding society.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
At this point, I’m just enjoying getting to know what I like and what I want to play. For a long time I was hung up on trying to check boxes of what I thought was needed as a professional guitar player. But over the years, it has become apparent that I did not need to do all that. I just need to be myself.

Today, I’m working on learning solos and songs from artists I really admire, and am really working on learning their stuff so that when I get back to writing my own music, I have that much more to draw from.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would definitely take him all across Arizona, not just Tucson.

In Southern Arizona, we would definitely hit the Chiricahuas, Bisbee, some hot springs, and The Century Room (jazz club) in Tucson. We would go up Mt. Lemmon, too.

In Central Arizona, would definitely go up Camelback as long as it’s not summer and hit Fashion Square. Hopefully a good show would be happening at The Nash, Mesa Arts Center or MIM.

In Northern Arizona, a Verde Valley run is essential. Bearcloud Gallery, gathering some pure Oak Creek water, Puscifer, Nellie Bly kaleidoscopes, and Merkin Vineyards are all great spots. Hanging out along the Verde River and the deep canyons of the red rock areas is very healing. Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon are awesome too. So are the Painted Desert and Petrified Forest.

It would be busy, but worth it!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I give a shoutout to all the creators who are really spending their time on their craft and all the greats who encourage us to do the same.
