We had the good fortune of connecting with Claudia Cavaliere and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Claudia, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I’m from Montreal, the city that possesses some of the world’s finest talent. Growing up I was surrounded by the most artistic and expressive people. Montreal really taught me how bless it can be to embody your truest and most authentic self, from underground cyphers, to speak-easy art shows,. Everything is art. Although I was born in Montreal, I bleed Italian, and this is how I was raised. Like typical Italians, my family is very expressive and loud. I was brought up with intense and radical emotions, loud speaking, showing love through grabbing your cheeks and amplifying your speech with hand gestures. So now do the math. A city of artists who are unafraid of expressing themselves plus a family who expresses loudly and unapologetically? Well, that’s how the Diva was born. By the way, did you know Diva means Goddess in Italian? Cool, huh? No wonder in the media a diva is often defined as a female hustler, hard working and outspoken. These women can do anything, like a true goddess, and that’s how my family raised me.
My dad would constantly joke with us when he would see me and my brothers staying still and say, “stop wasting the air that you breathe” . Meaning it was time to get up, hustle, and make some money. Since I was a child I have had the mind of an entrepreneur. In elementary I was selling gum to kids, and high school I started selling crystal pendants and giving tarot readings. My city enabled me to express myself freely, while my family taught me to make money from it, and that’s how my environment and upbringing influenced my business today.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Where I come from, and who I am really set me apart from others. I have a loud voice, and I am very eccentric. When I first started connecting with the spiritual community around me, I constantly found myself with very delicate and soft spoken people. I’d talk and feel like my voice and energy was taking too much space. I feel like people have this idea of a spiritual person being gentle, quiet. I’m here to teach people they can be equally badass, as they are spiritual. I like to cleanse with sage but also bring on the rage. Sometimes I have a bad attitude, but I’m still practicing mad gratitude, and this is my gift. A real Diva, or Goddess is never ashamed of who she is. You will constantly hear stories of deities creating a storm if they didn’t have their way, yet they are still basking in glory and being worshipped for who they are. I allow myself and others to accept your divine self. I love expressing my beliefs and practice through my art by mixing media and writing affirmations and inspiring quotes on my art.
I also think I am here to show people you can do anything you want in this life. You can thrive in all the things you love doing. You don’t ever need to conform to one single thing in this life. Sometimes I’m a healer, and sometimes I’m a model. Everyday I seek new and fun opportunities for myself. I am a mix of many things and I wouldn’t change it for the world.
I got to where I am with passion, dedication and hard work. It was easy because I made the most of my process. I made sure I was having fun the whole time. It was hard because while others were out partying I was working three jobs. I never understood why I had such a drive to work and make money at such a young age, but now that I’m sitting on my throne it all makes sense. I was doing all this to build what I have today. I learned that if you are honest with yourself and your passion, you will never be broke. I work with my heart because I love what I do and naturally I attract the most amazing clientele. I focused on my light and so that light shined and attracted other lightworkers. I want people to know that if you move with love and are kind you will get anything you want, and that’s the truth, because I am living proof.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my friend was visiting the area I would show them the studio I created, where they can find the most amazing cosmic and artistic community. We would do yoga or meditation and then end it with what I call “Cosmic Trap House”. This is when my door is open to all people interested in learning, vibing and grooving with a spiritual crew. You can meet tarot readers, energy workers and various artists. This environment is judgment free, and filled with love and light. For a more party vibe I would bring them to underground art shows to get a real taste of what Montreal has to offer. Live music, dancing and art! There they will see how eccentric and talented the people are. One of my favorite parts of Montreal is the East End and Petite Patrie. In these areas you find the most authentic Italian restaurants and cafes. The people in these neighbourhoods are filled with interesting, and loud characters. When I walk these streets I feel like I’m in a movie. There is also a lot of street art in these areas, and I would probably take them on alley-way tours to admire various artists. When Montreal gets hot it is inevitable I’d bring them to my side of town, the west side. The West Island is abundant in nature and space. Since I lived there my whole life I know a lot of secret beaches where we can swim, bask in the sun and enjoy a fat blunt. This is the perfect way to unwind and chillout. In regards to food, I would bring my friends straight to my Nonna’s kitchen where they will eat until they pass out. This woman will never stop feeding you, and saying no is not an option!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to thank my family mostly, for keeping my flame alive. It was really hard for them at first to understand I wanted to be a full time witch and part time artist. This uncertainty made me even more determined to show them I can do anything. They forced me to empower myself just to show them I can! If they didn’t have my back, who would? In my culture family opinion is what matters the most. When they saw how happy I was, they supported me unconditionally. I also want to thank my girls from the block, for keeping me grounded and rooted and my cosmic sistars, for elevating and inspiring me.
Lastly I want to thank my Astro lover for supporting me, from taking pictures for my business, to being the best person to make my days better.
Love all my supporter and I acknowledge I wouldn’t have made it this far, with so much joy, without them.
