Meet Crystel Becker | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Crystel Becker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Crystel, how do you think about risk?
Thinking back to three years ago and starting my photography business, just a few weeks after graduating nursing school, the biggest driving factor was: what is there to loose?
The worst thing that could happen while taking a risk is it doesn’t take off or work in your favor, the best case scenario is it blossoms into something much bigger than you ever dreamed. Either route will lead you to the life and purpose you were made for. You will never know if something will work unless you try it. You have nothing to loose!
In my case it took off much quicker than I ever anticipated. I began taking photos for friends and family and quickly started getting clients by word of mouth. I then jumped into weddings and most recently boudoir, both of which I absolutely love to shoot. I would never have discovered my love for either of those if I didn’t take a risk and chance testing out the waters in those areas of photography.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have always been a sucker for the little things in life, the candid moments, the feel good moments that just down right make your soul happy. This has definitely been portrayed through my style of photography whether it’s a lifestyle session, wedding, elopement or boudoir. I strive and naturally capture those beautiful moments so clients can truly remember how they felt during that time. I have never been a person who goes for proper, perfectly posed photos and I believe a good prompt, jokes, and laughter are the key to any photo session.
My editing style is more earthy, nostalgic and timeless, which I believe helps create the mood and feeling you get when looking at the photos. It’s the feeling and emotion that you get from my photos that is my true passion. I want clients and others to be able to look at a photo and feel something, whether that’s how the client felt in that moment or how the photo comes to life through what I capture.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I was born and raised in Minnesota, so naturally my absolute favorite memories are on the lake, traveling along the north shore and trying out new breweries, restaurants and venturing our state parks.
Any and all of our state parks are breath taking, especially Interstate State Park and Tettegouche State Park. One of our favorite out of state date weekends is in Pepin, WI. Villa Bellezza is the most beautiful winery that looks like you are in Italy. The food, wine and views are *chefs kiss*.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The biggest shout out and thank you goes to my husband for always encouraging me, supporting me and loving me through all my crazy ideas. No dream is ever too big in his eyes and he has been there by my side through it all. We are high school sweethearts, so he’s stuck with me forever!
