We had the good fortune of connecting with Dale & Tonya Ferguson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dale & Tonya, what role has risk played in your life or career?
8 years ago, we took a leap. A BIG ONE and our family and friends either though we were super cool or really crazy….and we were, both I mean. What started as a small, homebased, mommy needs an outlet business, quickly turned into so much more, and changed our path forever in the best of ways.

I was a stay at home mom of 4 on the hunt. I was seeking safe, natural, easy to apply, affordable health solutions for my family – easier said than done. I tried herbs, homeopathics, doctors route, OTC meds, great grandma’s home remedies and 4 different brands of essential oils. While some of it worked some of the time, none of it worked all of the time. I felt powerless and overwhelmed when my kids got sick and shared their germs with each other…… ALL THE TIME. NO mom should feel powerless at 2 am, we need super hero solutions for our babies! Enter doTERRA, and our lives radically changed. I saw more results the first four days these precious tools filled my home, than in the past 4 years of trying different remedies. I was hooked! The Bible says out of the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks and let’s just say essential oils were coming out of my mouth! I knew these safe, natural solutions would be SUCH a game changer for my mommy friends. And they were!

Suddenly this “thing” I was doing, became a business. I started teaching classes in my living room every Monday night and we grew rapidly in the oil world. We soon had team members all over the USA asking us to come teach oil classes for them too. (Pre zoom days, of course) By this time, my little side gig and it’s paychecks, had the attention of my husband as well. I started asking how he could take time off work to drive us around in the RV to teach healthy home classes for our growing oil team. He laughed, because at this time, he was commission-only insurance of 14 years, and was our bread winner. He did, however, agree to pray about it. So we did, asking for clear direction about this thing called doTERRA in our lives. And boy did the Father answer…big, three times in three days.

The first day we prayed, our small, lake-going RV sold. Ok, guess we aren’t traveling in that? The second day we prayed, our 18 acres next door sold. It had been on the market 2 years. The third day, in a row mind you, we prayed for wisdom, clarity and direction, we held our regular essential oil class in our living room. And we were asked if we would sell our home? We laughed, everything else sold this week, why not? We had a full price offer on the table by Friday.

Ok then. Guess we are doing this?!

We began the process of selling and giving away our worldly goods, Dale stepping back from his job, and we started moving our family of 6 into a small diesel RV, with one slide, that we paid cash for. It was tight, but we planned to travel for “6 months” and then come back to Oz to build a new home. No big deal!

Well, 2 weeks in, we knew, we weren’t going back. RV LIFE WAS AMAZING! Living a grand adventure all over the USA, living small to live LARGE. We saw 37 states our first year on the road, and 47 by the end of 6 years. (poor North Dakota, Alaska and Hawaii) Yes, we spent SIX AMAZING years living in our RV, although we upgraded several times until we had our dream coach. An Integra 45 footer with all the bells and whistles and a 22 foot custom trailer we pulled around as our garage. Car, smoker grill, 6 bikes, 4 scooters, a bin of swimsuits, you get the idea! We sure weren’t roughing it and we wanted this coach to be our forever home. Who needs sticks and bricks when you can take your home everywhere you go?!

During this time we were able to build our business in a way playing it safe wouldn’t allow. We worked our way to the 2nd from top rank in our company, and Dale retired at age 34 from a job he said he’d never leave. Funny, how when given the option, those jobs don’t hold near the value we place on them. Free from the constraints of a 9 to 5 (or let’s be real – waaaaay more) life we had grown accustomed to, we thrived as a family in 400 sq ft of intentional living! The best part? The time freedom that comes from financial freedom, and a healthier family, both in body and in spirit.

My hope and prayer, is that my four children look back on their childhood, and remember that mom and dad took a big risk and a leap of faith. That BIG blessings always follow really big obedience. That they, with fondness, remember the years we lived small to live LARGE. Out loud, boldly, simply and intentionally. That life is too short to not do the thing. Go on the trip. To live outside the constraints of a 9 to 5 life, and do something that they LOVE! Do something that drives them. That they are passionate about! The American dream, in a way, is a lie, because it’s not the things we buy, achieve or earn during our lifetime that matter. Rather, it’s the places we go, and who we go with that count! Humans weren’t made to explore the world for only 2 weeks a year. To sit at a desk 9 to 5. To forget their dreams because they are working someone else’s. So take the risk and LEAP!

Our favorite saying is this: Not All Who Wander Are Lost.

Getting to where we are professionally took work, sacrifice and dedication. There were times I had no voice left, got stood up for class after driving 8 hours and hundreds of miles, and wanted to quit more times than I can count. Momentum is a beautiful thing, and it always kicked in and carried us through to see it was indeed, worth it!

We are so grateful to represent the world’s largest, science-based, essential oil company; pursing the best and helping the most. Nature’s toolbox is 100% pure, 100% of the time. Our Creator’s beautiful creation, bottled up. We don’t add to or take away from God’s medicine cabinet. I love that so much! It’s like health care with a purpose. We treat our business like a ministry, as we get to share our faith and beliefs so fluidly alongside our passion for natural solutions for health. We do not take lightly, the people the Lord brings into our life. We strive to create community, a family environment and support system to do oil life together. I love to connect with the right people and help them move into better health, within a fun-loving, family-esque, team environment! You never oil alone.

The phrase you hear the most around here? “I have an oil for that!”
