We had the good fortune of connecting with Damian Young and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Damian, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Through my own fitness journey I saw a huge gap between healthcare and fitness. I had a lot of injuries from motorcycle wrecks and poor nutrition habits from lack of clarity in the fitness industry. After getting multiple certifications to help myself out, I came up with the idea that people need more than one modality to get their specific needs met. I really wanted to take a holistic approach to fitness and self-care with Dayo Fit and make something totally unique. A network of Doctors, Chiropractors, Massage Therapists, Nutritionists and Personal Trainers from different backgrounds that can prepare the best program for the client’s specific needs at any given point in their journey. A lot of times we go to the gym and we’re super intimidated to try anything new, so we just end up on the “dreadmill” for an hour an then we go home with no actual knowledge of how we’re effecting our proposed outcome. We get hurt from repetitive and poor motor patterns and then we give up on our goals. Not here. At Dayo Fit we make sure we address, fitness, mental health, recovery, lifestyle and nutrition all at the same time.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What sets Dayo Fit apart from other gyms and studios is our holistic approach. Our motto is “Train For Life” and we mean it. We offer fitness, nutrition and self-defense guidance for our members throughout any step in their journey. It brings me joy everyday to watch them hit new goals on the field, the mats or the scale. We got to where we are by providing our members with the utmost care and support. I’ve learned so many lessons on the way up and I have two pieces of advice for anyone wanting to start a fitness business, DO IT! Also, GET A MENTOR!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
You have to start your trip to the valley with a hike! The mountains here in the valley are why I moved here. You can literally find a great hike within 20 minutes of each other in any direction. We have a “Live Fit” club at Dayo Fit that hikes almost every weekend of the year! Afterwards we have brunch at Don Panchos in the West valley. There are so many options for great fun and food! For a good beer, you have to stop at Tap Savvy. They have the best selection in the West valley!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Dayo Fit is an accumulation of all the great people I’ve encountered on this journey. First, I’d like to thank my wife, Bernadette Young. Herself and our two children, Damian Jr. and Lulu, are the driving force behind Dayo Fit and any success I incur in life. I’d also like to thank our staff and members who’ve stepped up on so many occasions to help this dream grow. Thank you all!
