We had the good fortune of connecting with David Sodemann and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi David, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
As the owner of Boho Camper Vans, I’ve found that certain habits have been instrumental to our success. First and foremost is our commitment to customer feedback. We regularly engage with our clients to understand their needs and incorporate their insights into our designs and services. This approach has been crucial in keeping us innovative and competitive in the camper van market.

Continuous learning has also been vital. I dedicate time each week to stay informed about industry trends, emerging technologies, and effective business strategies. This ongoing education enables me to make well-informed decisions that keep our company at the forefront of the industry.

Cultivating a growth mindset has been another key factor. I’ve learned to view challenges as opportunities for improvement rather than setbacks. This perspective has been invaluable in navigating the complexities of entrepreneurship and continuously advancing our business.

Lastly, I’ve prioritized building and nurturing a strong team. By investing in our employees’ professional development and fostering a collaborative culture, we’ve created a motivated workforce that’s integral to our company’s success.

These habits have been fundamental in growing Boho Camper Vans and achieving our business objectives. They’ve allowed us to remain focused, adaptable, and passionate about our mission of providing exceptional camper van experiences to our customers.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Boho Camper Vans is more than just a business—it’s a passion project that’s grown beyond our wildest dreams. We specialize in creating custom camper vans that blend functionality with a unique aesthetic. What sets us apart is our commitment to individualized design. Each van we build is a reflection of its owner’s personality and adventure style.

I’m particularly proud of how we’ve managed to create a community around our brand. It’s not just about selling vans; it’s about fostering a lifestyle of freedom, exploration, and connection with nature. Seeing our customers embark on life-changing journeys in their Boho Vans is incredibly rewarding.

Getting to where we are today wasn’t easy. We started small, converting vans in a tiny workshop with limited resources. The early days were filled with long nights, tight budgets, and a steep learning curve. One of our biggest challenges was scaling up while maintaining the quality and personal touch that defines our brand.

To overcome these hurdles, we focused on building a team that shares our passion and vision. We invested heavily in training and fostering a culture of creativity and excellence. We also learned to listen closely to our customers, using their feedback to continuously improve our designs and processes.

A key lesson we’ve learned is the importance of staying true to your core values, even as you grow. For us, that means never compromising on quality or customer satisfaction, no matter how big we get. We’ve also learned the value of flexibility—in business, as in travel, you need to be ready to adapt your route when unexpected obstacles arise.

What I want the world to know about Boho Camper Vans is that we’re not just selling a product—we’re offering a gateway to adventure, self-discovery, and a simpler way of living. Our story is one of turning a passion into a thriving business, of creating a product that brings joy and freedom to people’s lives.

We’re excited about the future, about continuing to innovate in the camper van space, and about growing our Boho community. As we move forward, we remain committed to our original mission: to inspire adventure in both living and travel.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
For an exciting week around Phoenix, we’d start by hitting the road in one of our Boho Camper Vans. Our first stop would be the Superstition Mountains for a challenging hike up Siphon’s Draw to Flat Iron. The van would allow us to camp at Lost Dutchman State Park, right at the base of the mountains, waking up to stunning desert sunrises.

We’d then cruise up to Sedona, where we’d tackle world-class mountain biking trails like Hiline or Hangover Loop. The red rock scenery is unbeatable, and we’d cool off with a swim in Oak Creek after our rides.

Back near Phoenix, we’d spend a day paddle boarding on the Salt River. It’s a great opportunity to spot wild horses and bald eagles while navigating the refreshing waters. For some added excitement, we might try cliff jumping at the river’s calmer spots.

For a change of pace, we might head to Tonto Natural Bridge State Park to explore the world’s largest travertine bridge. The hikes here offer a mix of geological wonders and lush vegetation that’s unexpected in Arizona.

Throughout our adventures, we’d use our Boho Camper Van as a mobile basecamp, giving us the flexibility to stay close to nature and fully embrace the outdoor lifestyle.

To refuel, we’d hit up local favorites like La Grande Orange for it’s friendly neighborhood vibe, Cibo for amazing italian food, and Taco Guild for some gourmet tacos in a unique setting. For a special dinner to cap off our trip, we’d pick up fresh salmon and shrimp from Nelson’s Meat + Fish and relax and eat by the pool for the evening.

This trip really packs in the good stuff – you’ve got amazing outdoor adventures, some breathtaking natural sights, and a bunch of great local eats. The cool thing is, you can easily get to all of it in a Boho Van. It’s pretty much the perfect way to feel that sense of freedom and excitement while exploring everything Phoenix and the surrounding areas have to offer. We’d have a fantastic time!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate this shoutout to my business partner, Brett Ellenson. Since we started Boho Camper Vans, Brett has been instrumental to our success. His innovative ideas, customer insight, and unwavering dedication have shaped our company into what it is today.

Brett’s resilience during challenges and his ability to seize opportunities have been crucial. His complementary skills and perspectives have guided us through countless decisions, both big and small.

More than a business partner, Brett has been a true ally and friend. His commitment to our shared vision has been the backbone of Boho Camper Vans.

To Brett: Thank you for your hard work, creativity, and support. Our success is as much yours as it is mine, and I’m grateful to have you by my side as we continue to grow Boho Camper Vans.
