We had the good fortune of connecting with David Wildman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi David, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Ever since a little boy I always liked the idea of beating to my own drum. I would always go to the library and take out books on how to make money. During the summer months I was that boy with the lemonade stand, cutting grass, and/or washing cars. During the winter it was shoveling snow. I would sell hockey cards and things like that. The mind set I think I was born with. My family owned a Harley Davidson dealership for over 40 years called Cariboo Motorcycles. This was one of the most well respected dealerships. Watching customers come in day after day, and my father call them by a first name I thought was really cool. So being raised with family run business really entrenched my mind on what I could possibly do in the future.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What most people don’t know about me is that I am a Certified Plumber and Gas Fitter by trade. I also have my Power Engineering ticket. Running my own business and being a coach was never something I thought would turn into a full time job. It was a hobby and passion. I played volleyball in school/college, started coaching after my playing days were over and have never stopped. I created Ace Volleyball Club in 2012. We just celebrated our 10 years. This club started with myself and one other coach, and 24 players. Now we are one of the largest volleyball clubs in Canada and have over 500 players with 0ver 80 coaches. I am extremely proud of this. I was never affiliated with a University or College, never had a national team players backing, and didn’t have a someone with extremely deep pockets. Overall it has been a constant grind but the pros outweigh the cons.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Banff is a world renown provincial park. This is hands down the spot to see if you come my direction. The lake, mountains, everything about it really. Banff springs hotel is a top 10 hotel in Canada and also has some haunted history. A must see.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My late father John Wildman, was my biggest inspiration. Being successful takes work. There was no EASY way. People these days always look for the get fast, get rich way of doing things. Its a grind. My dad grinded 6 days a week if not 7 days a week during my childhood. Now that I am in this place I have a better understanding of what it takes and what is needed to be successful. My father passed away in June 2020 and I dedicate my success due to his guidance and personal traits he unstilled in me.
