We had the good fortune of connecting with Dawn Forkenbrock and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dawn, looking back, what do you think was the most difficult decision you’ve had to make?
I decided to leave my corporate banking job after working for the company for almost 15 years. I had great benefits & thought I could never make more money or find a better job anywhere else. After having my first son & taking an extended leave of absence my mind started to clear. I had a new identity as a mother & realized my career didn’t define who I was. After my leave I went back to work part time but only last 3 months. It was scary to leave the security of regular pay & benefits yet I knew the timing was right. It was such a blessing to be able to stay home with my son & then later my daughter too & I never regretted my decision.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I absolutely love having my own real estate business. It started out small & part time after my first two children were born. After my second child turned 2 I decided to go full time & have been ever since. My husband had to take a lot of time off work in order for me to get the proper training so my mind was set that I would give it my all. Slacking was not an option. I networked with other agents, learning from them. I hired a coach. I time blocked & work my butt off during those times so I could have a balanced life with my family. Now I have a transaction coordinator, an administrative assistant & showing agents who all help me in my business. Last year I sold 46 houses & $14.6 million in volume. I am incredibly grateful to all my clients who have trusted me with the sale & purchase of their home. I love my job & love helping people with such an important event in their lives.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh wow, a week long trip with no kids?! What is that? Haha, just kidding!

If I had a week with my best friend to do whatever we wanted it would definitely include some R&R at the spa- facials, massages, pedicures & nails would be a must. We would get our hair & makeup done & go to the improv & out to dinner somewhere yummy. We would spend several days at a nice resort laying out by the pool & drinking adult beverages. If the weather was nice perhaps we’d go on a hike & then out to lunch & shopping.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate this shoutout to my husband. He definitely deserves credit & recognition in my story. He is the one who always supports me 100% in everything I do. When I can’t see something clearly he offers insight & gives me a new way of thinking. When I accomplish anything in life I know he truly is proud of me & loves to brag about his wife.
