We had the good fortune of connecting with Demi Bang and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Demi, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, and moved to Tucson, Arizona when I was 5 years old. My mom was a single mom of 2 children. Growing up, we didn’t have much. It was tough, but my mom worked hard and was able to provide for us, despite her limited English. My mom showed me that through hard work, anything is possible. I started my YouTube channel when I was 12 years old and was able to make some spending money. During my senior year of high school, I also worked 3 jobs. Throughout college, I had several internships, worked 20+ hours a week, and also took 17+ credits every summer. If it wasn’t for my mom, I wouldn’t be the person I am today. I know my mom had a tougher life than me, but she worked hard and never complained.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
In all honesty, I’m proud of everything! My blog fulfills me in ways that I never thought would be possible. I’ve traveled through my blog. I’ve met incredible people through my blog. I’ve worked with amazing brands through my blog. I’ve even reconnected with old friends because of my blog too! Was it easy? Of course not – there have been moments where I feel like my blog was wasted time, but through all the support I’ve received, I wouldn’t change a thing about it. I’m not sure exactly what I want the world to know about me or my brand and story. I love making people laugh, I love meeting new people hearing their story, I love creating content. I’m playing everything by ear and just taking it one step at a time!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There are just so many things to do! First, I would show them my coworking space in downtown Phoenix, Novel Coworking. The coworking space is so cool, haha. That would be the first thing I show my best friend. Next, we would go eat ramen at Tampopo Ramen in Tempe. My favorite ramen shop in the valley. After that, we’ll get boba at Mango Rabbit – one of my favorite boba shops. After that, we’ll walk around Scottsdale Fashion Square and Old Town Scottsdale to burn off all the food we ate. To end the night, we’ll go eat again at Postinos!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people who have been great mentors and supporters to me. First, my family! My mom, dad, and stepmom have always been very supportive of my blog and journey. They’re constantly giving me new ideas and how to evolve my blog. Besides my parents, my brothers and sister have also helped me throughout this journey too. They assist me in taking photos, going to events with me if I’m too shy to go alone or proof read my blog posts. Additionally, my supervisors at work have been incredible mentors as well. I’ve watched them work and try to understand their thought process and how I can apply that to my blog. Lastily, all my friends have shown me great support! They’ve encouraged me to write about certain topics and read my posts too. My blog wouldn’t be where it is today if it weren’t for my family, friends, and readers!
