We had the good fortune of connecting with Derek Pettis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Derek, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
I have learned a lot since starting Save Par Golf. However, what I have learned the most is that it is important to keep moving forward regardless of circumstances. So many entrepreneurs or business owners get discouraged because of a setback or a speed bump, and then they get frustrated and never fully pursue their goals. That has been the most important lesson that I have learned. As a business owner, there will be plenty of obstacles, but you keep grinding and pursuing your dreams.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Save Par Golf LLC is a business that started with an idea via Instagram. I started out by posting golf related content and my account was growing at a rapid rate, and thought, wow, this can be so much more than just an Instagram page. So I started using my platform to help promote other golf related businesses that didn’t have the following that I had and would help try and grow their business and social media account. I was getting a lot of positive feedback and loved reading all of the positive feedback and thought how cool is this. I am growing the game that I love and helping others grow as well. I brought on a college friend of mine last year and we started a podcast. Save Par Golf Podcast and that has been another outlet that has been a lot of fun. It is still new, however, we have had some awesome guests on our podcast, that include social media influencers , business owners, and entrepreneurs that have the love for the game of golf. Save Par Golf is all about growing the game and that is what we want to be known for.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
North Loop in Minneapolis is the spot to be. I would start off by going to Thr3Jack, which is a restaurant/bar that has 6 golf simulators. The food is great, the hospitality is amazing and the golf is awesome. You can’t ask for much more than that. Also, depending on the time of year, we would have to go to a Vikings, Timberwolves, or Twins game and then, after that, we would get some of the best buffalo wings in Minnesota, which is right in downtown Minneapolis. The restaurant is called Runyons. It has an old school small bar/restaurant feel, but the atmosphere is fantastic. And then, of course, we would find some more time to play golf. Minneapolis is an incredible place with so many outdoor activities.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would have to give HUGE shoutout to my wife as she continues to help me pursue my dreams and supports me and pushes me to be at my best.
