We had the good fortune of connecting with Desirae Rocha and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Desirae, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
As a professional makeup artist, with over 15 years of experience in the industry Change is inevitable. When I embarked on creating MS HOLLYWOOD , the idea came to me in the form of my four-year-old daughter. As I set up my makeup station, just as I would set up for a private client, her tiny self sits in my chair with the “wow factor,’”. Her eyes are wide and she is elated. She was just excited to be in the chair. I began to dazzle her little eyes with glitter and shine and brush gloss over her lips, I saw the way her confidence was already shining through. She sat up taller, and fixed herself neatly. My daughter , who I was getting dance recital ready, halted , and in that moment of me giving her a mirror and her looking at herself for the first time ever with makeup and hair done, she said to me “Mom , wow look at me, I look so beautiful.”

It was at that moment that I decided that every little girl in the world, in the community, in our neighborhoods, and in our class rooms should feel this way. I decided that from that point on I was goin to create a business that was going to help young girls evolve their confidence from the inside out & that MS HOLLYWOOD needed to be born.

When you think of Hollywood , you think of bright lights, celebrities, red carpets, glamour, fashion and that is what my business is all about. As I grow my business the idea is to have a mid-sized bus that is mobile and comes to any house, party, or on-site location to provide you the glamour experience of a lifetime. Think of it as a MAC cosmetics on wheels but better, and more fascinating. Within the bus will be makeup stations , art walls for photo opps, a cool sound system with LED lighting and of course a built-in stage that will stretch out to be a walkway for a fashion show. After hair and makeup, the girls will get to sing, dance, and walk the runway . Participants will also get the chance to practice their public speaking by saying their name on a bedazzled microphone and expressing what they liked best about today’s experience. The experience is completed when the young girls walk off the red carpet and receive their very own photo shoot where they get to show off their beauty and happiness on camera. MS HOLLYWOOD is not just a glamour service for young girls , it is a catalyst for their confidence to truly grow . I know we all remember a time when somebody complimented us when we were young. Whether that was a teacher, a friend, a coach or simply somebody in your family. It leaves you feeling seen, and that is my dream for all young girls and ladies to feel seen.

I have seen what the power of beautifying a woman can do to their confidence. If I can bottle up that same energy for young girls in my community, then imagine what it can do for their overall mental well-being. Teaching young girls about positive self-talk, positive affirmations, self-love, body confidence and evolving their young minds and using the power of makeup and hair to bring that confidence out can truly change the trajectory of a young woman’s life. That is what I’m here to do. Through the power of beauty , young girls will get to experience themselves in a different light and they get to become MS HOLLYWOOD. MS HOLLYWOOD is you, MS HOLLYWOOD is me, MS HOLLYWOOD is your best friend or your little Queen. MS HOLLYWOOD is all girls who ever had a dream.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I can proudly say the dynamic and evolution that is MS HOLLYWOOD is like no other. Although there are other businesses that provide a similar service, I can say with full-blown confidence. That MS HOLLYWOOD is one of a kind. My ability to grow confidence in young womenvthrough beauty and glamour is vast . With my past life experiences and all the road blocks that it take for me to get here I truly have a story that stands out. I know that if I can help young girls feel exceptional about themselves, and help grow inner confidence and help evolve their minds, that this experience will truly be a once-in-a-lifetime experience that will take them through thresholds in life. They will look back on the experience they had with Miss Hollywood and say I remember what she told me and how it made me feel. For this experience alone will separate me from any type of competition because it is how you make a woman feel on the inside that will exude her beauty on the outside.This is not just a makeup party for girls, this is a 360 experience that is transformative and can place gems in young woman’s life truly by helping them Express who they are. I’ve been a makeup artist since I was a senior in high school at the age of 17. Now as a 34 year old woman and mother I know that every experience I’ve ever faced, every door that ever closed, every job that I never received, and everyone who told me I could never make this dream a reality , I can look back and say that I did it. And I did it on my own and on my own terms and with my own ideas and with my own money. MS HOLLYWOOD is my creation for every little girl that has a dream. it’s true what they say whatever you put your mind to will grow. And I put my mind to helping young women grow their confidence their beauty and their worth by helping them feel and be seen.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
As a fan of rooftops and sunsets, I would cater to the scenery of my beautiful state of Arizona. Taking my bestfriend to the 5 best rooftop locations in the valley: one for brunch , dinner and lunch . This will navigate a journey from downtown Phoenix, to Tempe and the Scottsdale. I would lace in between each journey the scenic route that would show the beautiful red Papago Mountains, South Mountain and Camelback. A day trip to Sedona is a must when in Phoenix , where we take a tour on a can-am through the breathtaking Red Rocks through the vortex where we can sit in silence in the zen garden and surround ourselves with natures beauty. After indulging in scenic views through the week, it’s time to hit the streets of downtown phoenix at night to mosey into the sleek and hidden speakeasys all over the city. From underground bungalows to hidden alley ways. Soaking up music and the grit of downtown phoenix. We would finish off the week hitting Canyon Lake where we ride Steam Boat Dolly on a sunset cruise where we have dinner and enjoy live music.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
When I think about how my story evolved and to where I’m at now I would definitely like to shout out to my parents for telling me they weren’t going to support my dream of going to cosmetology school because I could never be a makeup artist and make money. I truly do have amazing parents who wanted the best for me and they may not have supported me then but they truly and 1000% support me now. I also want to thank every closed-door that I had to kick down in order to get here. I was never given a handout. Within the last year a certain individual that I called my friend and my mentor really inspired me to take my business to the next level. His name is Richard Chacon . I admire him in more ways than one as he is truly an exceptional individual with a beautiful brain and heart. Although my daughter is not old enough to read yet the token of gratitude I express for her ability to inspire me to create this business truly goes to her. I hope one day when she reads this article she can look at me and say she’s proud of me. Without her being the inspiration , MS HOLLYWOOD would not exist.
