We had the good fortune of connecting with Devin Gough and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Devin, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind our success is our concierge-level service. When I started this business, I knew that anyone could wash a car and run ads — but I wanted to create something that truly stood out. My goal was to offer clients the same feeling you get when you sit down at a Michelin-star restaurant or check into a luxury hotel. That sense of care, attention, and prestige defines our brand. When you book a detail with us, you know that every question, concern, or request will be handled — and then exceeded. That elevated experience is what sets us apart.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I started Gough Mobile Detailing when I was 16, and like most new entrepreneurs, I faced my fair share of challenges early on. The detailing market is incredibly saturated, so standing out, especially against competitors with double my experience and triple the capital, wasn’t easy.

One of the first lessons I learned was that success doesn’t come from offering overly complicated service menus. No one wants to read a novel just to get their car detailed. Instead, I focused on mastering three core services: Interior Detail, Exterior Detail, and Full Detail. Once those were perfected, I introduced select add-ons designed to genuinely improve the client’s experience, not just pad the invoice.

I also realized early on that detailing isn’t just about cars, it’s about people. Sales became my most valuable skill. Whether over the phone or in person, I learned to diagnose each client’s needs like a doctor, recommend what would serve them best, and explain why. Once I earned their trust and booked the detail, I made sure never to disappoint.

Every appointment became an opportunity to exceed expectations. At Gough Mobile Detailing, we don’t stand out because of flashy marketing or endless package lists. We stand out because of how it feels to be our client. The same feeling you get from true concierge service. When you book with us, you know that every question, concern, and request will be addressed with care, attention, and respect. That’s the standard that built this business, and it’s the one that continues to drive it forward today.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If you’re in Arizona, it’s practically a crime not to go hiking. The best way to experience Phoenix is to hit one of the McDowell trails. I always recommend Tom’s Thumb. The climb is a workout, but the view from the top is absolutely unmatched.

After a morning hike, I’d grab lunch at All American Tavern. The atmosphere is great, and it’s tucked into a small shopping district where Arizona’s desert architecture really shines. For a fun evening, Old Town Scottsdale is always a go-to, great food, live music, and a mix of laid-back and upscale spots.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to give a huge shoutout to my parents. Starting a business was not easy, and in the beginning they were the ones who helped me financially get Gough Mobile Detailing off the ground. Beyond that, I’ve always looked to them for inspiration. Both of them started their own businesses and practices, so entrepreneurship runs deep in our family. Their experience and guidance helped me navigate the early hurdles of running a business with confidence and ease. Without their support, Gough Mobile Detailing would be in a completely different place today.
