We had the good fortune of connecting with Dom Brightmon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dom, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success is the people. People have encouraged me all my life and still do because if someone is living and breathing, they need encouragement. When I was writing my first book, I had friends that would check in on me to ask how the book was coming along and sometimes ask for samples as proof to hold me accountable. After the book was published and I became a podcast host that features fellow authors, people keep the show going because folks listen in, and writers love talking about their work.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business is a life advancement business that helps others create their own piece of immortality (like a book), and embrace their dreams. This was born from discovering personal development in the Winter of 2012 when I had a desire to change because I went through a setback sandwich of becoming a caregiver for my dying father, crashing my car on my 21st birthday, and almost losing my part-time job. After eating that sandwich, I decided to read books on leadership, self-help, sales, etc. which helped me to shift my mindset to think positively. With a new positive mindset focused on intentionally advancing, I was promoted at my job to a full-time position, published 3 books, and launched a podcast that has interviewed over 500 authors from around the world. It wasn’t all easy but with faith, focus, networking, and taking deliberate action, I can help others advance in their own lives.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If a friend was visiting me for a week, it would involve books and coffee since they are my favorite things. Especially popping by the Dovecote Cafe for a quick bite to eat and Everyone’s Place to check out some of the great books they have to offer. As well as other book stores like the Wisdom Book Center and The Ivy Bookshop.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shout out my friend Chaz Jackson. He’s a father, husband, author, and youth leadership mentor that does good work in his community.
