We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Mike Brademann and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Mike, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Chiropractic is my second career. My first career actually involved risk management. I also felt a great responsibility to support my family financially and not take on any unnecessary risk. Basically, my focus for over 15 years centered around avoiding risk.
But a secret dream of mine had always been to become a doctor. After being under chiropractic care with my mentor, Dr. Jason Sabo, I was inspired to pursue a career as a chiropractor myself. This meant leaving our home country of Canada and moving to the US to go to the best Chiropractic College, selling our house, giving away most of our possessions and spending our life savings on tuition.
My wife is a bit of a powerhouse and challenged me on every reason I came up with to avoid taking the risk of being an older student in an extremely challenging program with no backup plan – in a foreign country.
Once I graduated from Sherman College of Chiropractic, we had to decide if we took the safe route of returning home to Canada with a support system and job opportunities in place or follow our gut to Tucson, where we felt we were meant to be.
We moved to Tucson without knowing a single person. We opened a practice in the middle of the pandemic and brought a brand new approach to chiropractic care to the state of Arizona. We do things differently than what you may think of as ‘traditional’ chiropractic and we had to figure out how to clearly communicate that with the community.
By letting go of a life filled with hesitation that kept me safe and boxed in, I now have one that is so much more rich and satisfying, full of connection and purpose.
What should our readers know about your business?
I am not your typical chiropractor. I use a low force adjusting technique that is all done in a seated position. It takes the fear out of chiropractic, and it allows me to see people that have complex conditions that are not able to see traditional chiropractors. I address what is going on with each person on a neurological level and care about how they sleep, how they manage stress, how they function, how they heal and how they process the world around them. I am the only office in Arizona currently offering this chiropractic technique and love watching it work every day.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My itinerary is mixed with time to play, eat and heal. I would start off at Sweet Water park for a hike or beginner bike ride to see and take pictures with the saguaros. Followed with a meal at one of the many plant based restaurants around town like Beaut Burger, Lovin’ Spoonfuls or Midtown vegan Deli. I would then get into my Zen space with a facial reflexology appointment with Laura at Skin Narrative a massage with Brianna at Desert Mudita and a somatic session with Rachel at Somatic love and Healing. I would finish off the trip by hiking Pima Canyon followed by brunch at Charro Vida. If you plan your trip with enough time I would leave with a memento on your skin with a tattoo from Hector at Bushido studio.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
On our first visit to Tucson, we met the owner of Beaut Burger, Ari Shapiro, while he was taking our order. He ended up coming to sit with us and, for an hour, explained what made Tucson so great. From the wonderful people to the support for small businesses to the beauty that can only truly be seen by spending time here.
He was completely right. The community of Tucson has built us – our amazing patients, our inspiring natural health community, the city’s absolute commitment to being authentic. Tucson has nothing to prove. It is ok being itself and we are here for it.
