We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Paula Lima and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Paula, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Naturopathic medicine is a great alternative to conventional medicine by providing people with alternative therapies to many common illnesses. At Essence Medical Center, I help people to feel their very best by using natural modalities like acupuncture, hormone replacement therapy, intravenous nutrient therapy, regenerative joint injection, personalized nutrient supplementation, ozone therapy, hair restoration, SkinPen micro needling, and much much more. The beauty in naturopathic medicine is that, providers are able to spend a lot more time the patient, allowing us to get to know patients on a personal level, to create custom treatment plans that will work for them. These natural therapies have minimal to no side effects and are often natural substances that don’t harm your body like many conventional treatments. The state of Arizona provides naturopathic physician a wide scope of practice allowing us to offer conventional treatments when needed and natural modalities to support the body as well.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Essence Medical Center is a naturopathic medical center providing alternative care to common illnesses many people struggle with daily. Naturopathic medicine therapies include hormone replacement therapy, pellet therapy, intravenous nutrient therapy, botanical medicine, acupuncture, cupping, gua sha, and much more. The wonderful part about naturopathic medicine is that providers are able to spend a lot more time with their patients getting to know them in order to create individualized plans. I have known that I wanted to be a doctor my whole life, it feels like a true calling, so work is enjoyable. I am always researching about medicine or innovative therapies for my patients. I am excited to be adding options for my patients like ozone therapy. Naturopathic Doctor undergo a lot of schooling so the journey to now was not easy. I did 4 years of undergraduate, graduated with a Bachelors of Human Nutrition. After undergraduate school, I did 4 years of medical school followed by one year in residency. Although it was very challenging, I kept in mind my dream to one day be able to help patients overcome their chronic health concerns with therapies that helped without and were natural.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am thankful to my family who has always encouraged me to be persistent in my studies. With their support and encouragement I have been able to endure the long years of medical school and residency in order to become a naturopathic doctor. During the 9 years school, it felt as if the years were never passing and that I would never get to the finish line but sure enough it did and my family and friends continue to support my private practice.
