Meet Elisa Terry | Fine Art Photographer and Visual Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Elisa Terry and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Elisa, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
“Success is not final; failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.” -Winston Churchill
This quote reminds me that becoming any kind of business owner requires courage. Especially a business owner in the world of visual arts, where your artistic work is being criticized, interpreted and even unaccepted or accepted on a daily bases. Creative’s are always vulnerable to other’s opinions and thoughts about their work which comes from a deep, personal place of their own identity. It truly does call for courage to continue and stay true to yourself as an artistic business owner.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a self taught artist specializing in painting on canvas, custom painted footwear, hand illustration and fine art portrait & commercial photography. Following a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in industrial design from Auburn University, I pursued my career as an exhibit and environmental designer in Las Vegas, Nevada. I returned to my roots as an artist and photographer to pursue my love for the arts. My signature style includes the use of vibrant color and bold contrast to bring my work to life. My collection consists of mixed media paintings involving oils and acrylics on canvas, illustrations with pastels, watercolors, charcoal, inks, ebony and prismacolor pencils, custom painted shoes in a variety of footwear styles as well as portrait, commercial and artistic photography working exclusively with natural light in both color and black & white with Sony cameras and Sigma lenses. My artist statement:
Inspired by the unlimited beauty of color, I use a vibrant style in my work where expression is evoked through visual stimulation. The content should be secondary to the meaningful communication of emotion through color and composition. Viewing art and photography should be a liberating moment in time.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Living in Las Vegas, I would encourage anyone visiting to walk the famous strip and enjoy what each hotel has to offer. There are many amazing restaurants, shopping opportunities, beautiful shows and nightlife in each hotel. My favorite hotels include the Bellagio with their amazing fountain show, indoor gardens and luxury suites as well as The Venetian with their indoor gondola rides and indoor city that makes you feel as if your outdoors. The Smith Center downtown is also a must in the heart of the Arts District where you can catch a broadway show.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family, especially my parents, Juan and Elisa Carmona who nourished my creativity and artistic abilities from such a young age. Every single artist and photographer, including instructors and fellow professionals who I ever had the pleasure learning from and speaking with. My husband, Logan Terry who has always supported and has always been proud of my work.
