We had the good fortune of connecting with Elizabeth Joseph and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Elizabeth, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
The most important thing I’ve done as a parent for my child is choosing me first! Ok, hear me out. I learned the hard way that I have to put myself first, even before my child. I was a “work work work” person and because of this, almost burned out my adrenals, gave myself Hypoglycemia, and was having severe panic attacks.

Teaching my son to put himself first is something I think most of us didn’t get. We are usually taught things like, “Sleep when you’re dead” and just a general mantra of “work work work.”

How can you help others if your bucket is empty? The answer is, YOU CAN’T. If I’m not well, I won’t be able to care for others like I want to and NO ONE is going to put ME first.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Be More Raw LLC nutrition has been around since 2013. After becoming certified in Holistic Nutrition at SWIHA, I continued my education studying under world renowned practitioners such as Gabriel Cousens, Dr Brooke Goldner, Dr Michael Greger, Dr Robert Morse, Mr. Ben Ta’ati, CCH, RSHom and Dr Amalia Baca, to name a few. Most of what I learned and use in my practice came from outside the mainstream institutions and really digging deep for inventive and innovative practices.

I’m incredibly proud to be doing the work I do because I’m truly helping people heal and change their lives permanently. I’ve helped people with things as minor as weight loss and gas to conditions as serious as cancer and diabetes. It’s more rewarding than I truly have words for.

What makes us different than other Colon Hydrotherapy spas and clinics, is that every single staff member hired is gone through a rigorous interview process ensuring they are not just here for another job. We truly care about your health from a holistic perspective. Colonics is a small part of what we do. We look at each person as an individual, taking into account all aspects of health including home environment & toxins, synthetic fragrance, stress, sleep, and of course, diet and nutrition.

I have overcome just about everything under the sun. I’ve had my own personal health struggles including a serious parasite infection, Hypoglycemia, PTSD, Panic Attacks, lack of funds, abuse, stolen goods, unethical business interactions, and even just being taken advantage of. I’m grateful for every single one of those because they truly made me who I am today.

I’ve definitely learned to always have a contract and document everything! I’ve also learned to be OPEN to how my blessings can come. If I remain grateful for everything I am and have and open to blessings coming in different shapes and forms, and most importantly, that the Universe is always on my side.

I want everyone who reads this to know that it was a long and treacherous journey to get to where I’m at and I was never here for the money. I quit school when I had almost completed my degree in Computer Programming, which is a very lucrative career, to dive head first into a passion that I saw no future in and had no real idea what I was doing. All I really knew was that I wanted to help people, and I had to figure out a way to tell people the truth: That no matter what illness you have, your body has the innate ability to heal itself.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting the first place I would take them is to Sedona to enjoy the beautiful nature, peace and healing energy that Sedona has to offer. One of the biggest reasons to go to Sedona is to hit up Chocolatree Organic Oasis. That place is so magical and peaceful, it’s like a mini retreat. Who would guess it’s a restaurant!

My next visit would be back in to the Phoenix area to visit Papago Park and sit in the “cave,” as my son likes to call it.

Soul Center is another place I wouldn’t miss the chance to hit up. They are always having cool markets and events with local, plant based vendors or even documentary screenings that will change your life!

The Monthly Melanin Natural Market is another free, outdoor event I never miss! Full of healthy, indigenous and holistic & local vendors!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Donnell Jackson, owner of The Coughee Company, has been a huge inspiration to me and is a huge part of why I’m where I am today.

Although I’ve had my business for years, it was always something I did part time. In retrospect, I truly believe the lack of representation in this area (entrepreneurship) is part why it took me so long to get where I am today.

I always saw myself succeeding, but it always seemed so far away. It was as if I was waiting for something to magically happen. When I met Donnell, who was my age, I couldn’t believe he already had a brick and mortar business and was working full time for himself. After seeing how he did it, my dream of “one day” suddenly seemed reachable.
